Description A recent-ish commission of Linna from BUBBLEGUM CRISIS. Once upon a time, I did an original BGC miniseries, GRAND MAL; surprisingly enough, I found that I can just about (but not quite) still draw the hardsuits and hairstyles from memory.

Medium: Sharpies (fine and extra-fine) on cheapo copy paper...

This is great !!!

The original Lina from Bubblegum Crisis 2033 is my favorite character..

I'm a big BGC fan... Recently I bought the GRAND MAL comic.. Found it buried under a lot of comics in a store here in Buenos Aires (Argentina). Is an old Black Horse edition.. LOL

You reached the world with this work !!

More or less... It's been out of print for a while, I believe, but Dark Horse's retail site has it available in their "nick and dent" section [link] and Amazon has it available from secondary sellers, apparently: [link] Either way, it's certainly cheap as hell, at roughly $5. (Not that I'd see any royalties off the book, given that it's out of print.) Some funny reviews at the Amazon link, BTW, running the gamut from "Hey, I actually liked it" to folks who really, REALLY didn't. Have to admit, I'd forgotten that GRAND MAL was a tad controversial in BGC-fan circles, back in the day...

I've been trying to track down BGC Grand Mal for ages now. Your versions of the girls are just wow. Very funky and so streamlined and sleek. I can just about hear the soundtrack playing along with the art.

You know, I think you of all people in the industry are the most fun when it comes to your own takes on characters. They always end up being on their own level, and almost turn into like - paralell canon! Simply because your work with them is too fresh and stylish to be lumped into the old teams work. Bravo, seriously!

Great work on the shadows of Lina there. Makes me think of the inks the King used to use in his works! Very strong, very clean!

one of my fave series ever....as a matter of Kenichi Sonada is on of my main influences. I love this a whole lot. Good stuff.

How do you maintain such control with sharpies? or did you use pencil first? just wondering.

I do an underdrawing in pencil, then "ink" over it with the two types of Sharpies (and then erase the pencils, natch). Side note: A major limitation with Sharpies is that are very real limits on how small you can draw things.... You'll notice that most of the Sharpied pieces use very large figure sizes.

Nice. I was wondering, that'd been superhero like if you just went straight in with markers and threw down. Not to say that you can't, but still. Also, one more thing, do you still have that "Wizard school" thing you did a few years back? I'd love to see that again. That always made me wanna draw. Thanks Adam.

I drew a LOT of armored girls because of the series you did...I had almost forgotten about Bubblegum Crisis, thanks for the inspiration those years ago, man

Woohoo! Classic BGC! 2040 is okay, but there's just something about the original. I have that Grand Mal comic. Love the scene where Priss is completely drunk and cussin' up a storm at one of the clubs where the Replicants plated.
