AdamWarren — Raiden + the last PSM endpager

Description Here's the last "endpage" cartoon I did (a year or so ago) for the final issue of the videogame magazine PSM, before it ceased publication and restarted as Official Playstation Magazine.

As my very first endpage piece [link] had featured cruel mockery of Metal Gear Solid's Raiden (as had many other "endpagers" to follow), I thought it would be appropriate for ol' Raiden to reappear in the very last one and berate PSM and myself over his mistreatment...

Anyhoo, the endpager feature did sputter on for a few more months as OPM's publication began... though the feature never appeared at the end of the book again, which admittedly makes the "endpager" nomenclature technically incorrect. Eventually, other deadlines and pressing matters (and lack of interest) forced the end of the feature entirely. Still, I had a good run in the "gaming strip" field; hell, that's longer than I lasted on GEN13, in fact.

Let this be a lesson to you burgeoning freelancers, though: At most (if not all) companies, unless you're an in-demand heavy-hitter or have multiple, well-established editorial contacts, you're always one editor's departure away from being unemployed. (Not that, by definition, freelancers are ever fully employed per se, but I hope the point is nonetheless clear.)

I really miss the PSM of old....
The comics and the reviews kept me coming during the late 90s.
After the gag bits started to disappear, I lost interest until it became the OPM. *sigh*
What a lovely way to go out, though.

Stay golden....

PSM was once one of the best-selling magazines... how sad. I loved the art of the first covers... when they comissioned some great artists to do them. They even rejected one cover made by Masamune Shirow, or so I understand after reading his Intron Depot 2...

OH Poor raiden...i really liked this character and he is only mildly feminine....maybe he should pull a leo dicaprio and gain some weight and grow facial hair.

BAH ah well i love metal gear and i will miss these encounters with you raiden. I think i actually have a psm with one comic in the back like this....its amazing i had a psm i was more of a EGM man or something.

I remember a comic about dante from devil may cry bitching about posing in near nothings and what not, oh oh ..and i remember the street fighter bathing suit mishap where they were all too beat up to pose on year....good times.

BTW: Whats the difference of staff between psm and opm ?

man... i loved your stuff in psm. it was always what i looked at first. and when i grabbed a abandoned issue out of its bag and DIDN"T find your page in there i put it back on the rack with the other detrius and never bought another issue again. the magazine has lost its soul man...

And dont worry about gen 13. no one else does.

God damn it Adam, I'm so glad you're in fandom.

ALso, *bleep*ers on image board sites who don't like your style can bite my shiny metal ass.

And your stint on GEN13 may have been short, but it was very memorable -- especially in my circle of friends. To be honest, I haven't read it much since.

I actually remember this one, I probably still have that issue in my basement somewhere. It's just as funny now as it was then. Even though Raiden did redeem himself in MGS4. Kinda.

It's always a pleasure to see a pro artist like Adam Warren sharing his works in DA - i looking forward to see if he's going to post his contribution from Wizard Magazine Crash Course (or was "Basic Training"?).
That would be cool too

Very good point on your last paragraph. Freelances have it worse than the 50th guy in line for a free meal celebrating don't eat chicken day for only 49 people. You might get lucky and one fella might get kicked out of line for wearing a chicken costume. Even so you might get kicked out because the lead editor of the event thinks he saw you at KFC once. O.K. weird analogy, but still, it's a tough field and people should really research before they get into the freelance world and WAY before they quit their day job! Great art too BTW.

I really truly miss PSM. It was a really good indy mag. I was a huge fan back in the day. Heck, I still have my original PlayStation, adorned with the PSM lid sticker. Nowadays, though, people are just like, "Who is that."

By the time I had started subscribing to the mag, I had already kinda known who you were, which made choosing the mag all that much cooler. It did, however, introduce me to Ryan, who is now also one of my favorites.

It was truly a great time to be subscribed to a gamer mag.

PSM Ended and my heart was heavy, I stuck around till my sub ended...only for my heart to be ripped out and curb stomped by the new OPM. It was sad to see a gaming magazine I grew up with during my "formative" gaming years go the way of the dodo.

A fitting way to go out, good sir. It's a cryin' shame they didn't keep you on after the name change. It's all good though, as it gives you more time to work on Empowered!

we've only got five fingers per hand...that's four spaces in between. Plus, do you know how thick the grips are? O_o;

For katanas, they can be up to about an inch or two thick, I think a ninja or samurai can swing that.
