Description Well, my wife and I are assembling a new Sketchbook for this year's convention season. The focus of the book is all the sketches and drawings we've done for our blog, which we had only started in January of '07. It's been a year, and this is a sort of retrospective of our blogging.

And, since it was all about our trek through cyberspace, when we were thinking of a cover I immediately thought of Tron. Good God almighty, do I ever love Tron. Comfort was down with it, too, and even suggested the idea before I got the chance.

So she sketched up a rough and I designed the costumes (the boob-window was HER idea!!! ), then we each drew ourselves in and I colored the whole thing. Now, at long last, I have completed a piece of Tron fan-art that also happens to feature me and my lovely wife. Now, if that ain't a geek's fantasy come true, I don't know what is.

I forgot to ask you this with my original comment, but what would your favorite game be on the Game Grid of the original movie?

Myself, It would be awesome to take on maybe 8 or even 16 red circuited video warriors in a Disk Battle for a real challenge, though i'd most likely derez in such an event XD!

And it would also be awesome to compete in the Ring Game and Light Cycles, too .

Light cycles look cool, but in the actual arena I think it would be too nerve-wracking. I'd probably enjoy the disk battle more, because at least I can see what I'm doing and not be making tight, last-second turns at death walls every couple seconds.

I wasn't a fan of Legacy to be honest because it took away a number of elements I held dear from the original film. I guess I don't care for the minimalist design philosophy, plus the programs were too human and the way they derez saddens me. Rinzler was also a loathed factor as well.

Well, I loved it. And Tron: Uprising, too. I know it wasn't to the taste of some, but both the film and cartoon were unquestionably well-made and well done works. That doesn't mean everyone will like them, but I certainly did and I'm as big a fanboy of original Tron as you're likely to find.

I've still never seen Tron or Tron Legacy. Apparently the first came out in 1982??

AdamWithers In reply to clampfan101 [2013-02-13 16:15:30 +0000 UTC]

Yep. Waaaay back. I highly recommend both, though Legacy is a film more built on subtext and metaphor (the deeper you like to think about and analyze a movie, the more you'll like it). I also recommend the Tron: Uprising TV series VERY highly. Excellent, excellent cartoon.

If it's a sequal to the first, then how could one watch Legacy in theaters w/out first watching the original on youtube or whatever?
Do they still show Uprising?

AdamWithers In reply to clampfan101 [2013-02-14 16:28:32 +0000 UTC]

Theoretically it's possible, but yeah you'd be better off watching Tron first, probably. It's a fascinating movie - if possible, try and find some of the documentaries about it or rent the special edition DVD or something to see how it was made. No movie has ever been made the way they made Tron, and no movie ever will again. It is unique in history.

Uprising wrapped its first season, not sure if they're showing reruns but you can find it on iTunes or other places. I think iTunes might have the first couple episodes free - at least, they did at one point.

Awesome work! I like the light streaks following the disks, that was a nice touch, and I LOVE that the skin tones more resemble the look of the original Tron, as opposed to the sequel (which, as I write this, I realize wasn't even out when you submitted this piece . . . oh well).

I personally enjoyed Tron: Legacy, even though I was the only person in my area who did. Ah well. And I personally like the art-style in Tron: Legacy way better then the style of the old film. It had more of a futuristic feel then an 80s video-game feel, and that's why I prefer it.

AdamWithers In reply to Spider-Bat700 [2011-01-18 17:36:58 +0000 UTC]

I loved the movie to death, and really don't understand the Hateraid that everybody's drinking. It was one of my favorite movies I've seen in a while. As for the art style, I like both for different reasons, but my preference would be somewhere in the middle - a little of the old and a little of the new.

hey, idk if anyone else has suggested this yet but maybe u should do another one of these but update it with the tron: legacy look

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AdamWithers In reply to RandomHero7 [2011-01-14 17:06:51 +0000 UTC]

Probably not. For one thing, who has the time? I'm busy as a mofo over here. For another, though I loved the movie to death, I'm not sure I prefer the style of the new Tron suits to the old. I find the light designs too plain and boring and not nearly evocative enough of a circuit board or cybernetic program. At most, I'd have something of a combination of the two. IF I had the time to do something like that.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RandomHero7 In reply to AdamWithers [2011-01-14 17:48:17 +0000 UTC]

i kno what u mean, most of my time is consumed with work or school, i havent really had the time to sit down and actually make a piece of art. i do the occasional drawing from time to time but nothing real exciting
But, it was just an idea, i really liked ur piece and was curious to see how u would have done another one with the new look. when i get a chance to draw i liked making my heroes Tron-ifyed with the new look, like what marvel did wit theirs.
im also kinda think the new look is, ok. deff modern but not too computer looking, and alot more black which i really didnt mind, i like black
and they took away the helmets, i would have maybe made them smaller and different but still would have kept them.

This is seriously awesome. Much love to both of you for this. . I adore Tron, and I think this is really creative. The style is really cool, too. Not like the second film, but more along the lines of the first. Works for me.

AdamWithers In reply to Amriah [2010-12-24 17:28:52 +0000 UTC]

I made this back in 2008 - way, way, way before Tron 2 came out. In a lot of ways I actually prefer the look of the original digital style to the new. It's more intricate and feels more computery to me. I'm all for simplification MOST of the time, but in this case I'd just love to see costumes that mixed both styles but leaned toward the classic but everybody on the new-style light cycles.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Amriah In reply to AdamWithers [2010-12-24 17:33:07 +0000 UTC]

I agree with you. Something more computer-y mixed with the simplistic design of the new suits. Besides, those new light cycles are just so badass! Definitely a favorite part of the movie.
