Description ok, so I finally upload something that I'm really working on! And as you can tell, I'm finally getting the habit of making the render files actually look good. Still need to fine tune the lighting and shadow effects though... they make it look slightly pixelated, even though the model itself is smooth and everything...

---

Inspirations:
Base body:
• Ted Naifeh – Courtney Crumrin trilogy – “Night Things” characters
• Marvel – Xmen series – “Nightcrawler” character
• Disney – Lilo + Stitch Movie and TV series – “Stitch” character
• Ken Sugimori/Nintendo – Pokémon franchise – “Sableye” character
Costume:
• Prince of Persia game franchise– weapons, earrings, clothes
• Vexx gamecube game – gauntlets (minus claws)
• Disney’s Aladdin movie and TV series – setting, clothes

Back story:
Jynx is a young boy who has been accidentally cursed by his childhood friend. The curse changed his body, rendering him mute and giving him the body of creature of the dark, and erasing his existence from the minds of those around him. Only the one who gave him the curse can remove it, but he was kidnapped from his home before he could solve the problem. Since his name will have no meaning until he can have the curse lifted, the boy has taken the name Jynx and searches for his mysteriously kidnapped friend, leaving no record of his progress except through what has been written down.

Character traits:
Though he has been cursed and abandoned by everyone he knew and loved, Jynx has a surprisingly understanding nature. He realizes that it is not their fault that people find him terrifying to behold, nor that they cannot remember his presence after not focusing on him directly for ten minutes. He tries not to abuse this side effect too much, but he does find it useful when he has to steal food to survive during his quest (who would sell food to a 4 foot devil creature?) He does his best to overcome his mute condition by using body language to the fullest extent when he does need to confront people, but tries to carry out most of his investigations and questioning via post. He is very focused on his search for his lost friend, since he fully believes that it will solve all his current problems.

Things to note:
-this is version 5, and it will not stop there This is a project for class after all.
-Primarily, this is as far as I got on my own, just going from what I'd learned after a full year of classes and personal experimentation with Maya. Unsupervised Experimentation.
-When it comes to class though, I need to redo AAAALLLL of my UV texturing (ie, redo the skin, for those not in the know) which is what I'll be doing for version 06.
-I don't think I'll be changing his base model any more than it is right now, unless something drastic comes up when I start animating him (ie, a tiny triangular face somewhere )
-I still need to add his earrings, belt, and holstered daggers. I'm still debating whether to have a sword on his back or not... might make the model too cluttered, plus it's a little too NightCrawler-esque...
-He's not posed, animated, or rigged yet; which explains his Galileo Man posture. That kind of stuff will come together with later versions

Ok, that's more than enough for now... hope you like!

I suggest you to use bump mapping on the skin and dress surface to increase the realism of the final rendered picture.
By the way it's a great work, nicely done, especially for the peculiarity of that creature.

Thank you very much! I do plan on using either bump mapping or normal mapping for his skin and accessories (in fact, I think I'm required to do so for the Texture assignment due after reading week)
I'm planning on using either Zbrush or Mudbox to do that part, which will be new venture...

Eheh, nice, i think it would be a good idea.
Let me know if you need some skin textures with bumps, because i've got many of them and is not a problem for me to give you some.
