Description Place your bets... who'll win? The young moon goddess, or the elder thing apparently taking a stroll through outer space for some reason...

Personally I always felt Cthulhu was a bit of a wuss, so my bet is on Luna. She'll fry up that squid real good, and open a calamari joint back in Canterlot. All praise Luna!

Playing around with blurs and transparency in this one. Still can't draw moons

Honestly, as Cthulhu's body is made of an indestructible and regenerative material, and that he can stretch his tentacles as much as he wants to, and also that he possesses vast intelligence and awareness about everything, he has great psychic abilities, he can drive mad any non-omnipotent creature that looks at him directly, he can create a city out of nowhere (thank you for that information, wikipedia), and he can travel between dimensions and universes. Oh, and he can only be killed by an omnipotent creature, with omnipotent power, that is. Like Fausticorn.

Luna would totally lose against him, a Great Old One's god.

Just to add another quick message, that "boat" that hit him, was a cross continental yacht (which are normally over four hundred feet in length. And that's going with a medium type). Does anybody even know what getting hit buy a ship that large at full speed can do? Not to mention Cthulhu reformed right after he was hit. And he went back to sleep because the stars were not right. All of my money is on the old one.

Okay seriously, Cthulhu would win. For those of you that have actually read the call of Cthulhu, he wasn't owned by a boat, the stars were not right so he went back to sleep. And changing the stars doesn't put him back to sleep, It's more like a certian time when all the old ones awaken. Cthulhu, While in death like slumber, drove half the world into madness and caused large storms to rise. This was without even trying. And half the people on the "alert" died by looking at him. He also is made out of a substance not known to man. Oh and did I mention that he also can communicate telepathicaly and knows everything about the universe and what's going in inside of it. I'm sorry princess, but prepare for the end.

That's a pretty tough argument: while Cthulhu is an entity born from exploding stars (as I heard it) and acts as a prophet of sorts for higher gods, Luna (if Ponyville exists on a geocentric flat world with a solar and lunar disc around it) is the one who moves celestial bodies around as she pleases.

I guess it depends on who is in whose universe.

Luna: Oh hi there Cthulhu, you're awake!
Cthulhu: Hello ex fellow eldritch god imprisoned until the stars are right! the stars are right once more! I think I'll eat some of your tasty little cultists for breakfast, if you have some spare.
Luna: My ponies, you mean?
Cthulhu: Eeyup...
Luna: do you realize that I can realign the stars and put you to sleep...
Pinkie Pie: FOREVER?!?
Luna: Pinkamena please stay with the other elements...
Cthulhu: wait, who's the little pink dimensional warper?
Pinkie Pie: Hi! I'm Pinkie Pie! I'm new!
Luna: she's Loki's grandchild.
Pinkie Pie: Okie-dokie-Loki! Granny Loki Pie, she's so funny...
Cthulhu: What.
Luna: Did I mention that my sister and I imprisoned the Crawling Effing Chaos some centuries ago? And that Pinkie and her friends imprisoned old Nyarly AGAIN last week, after he tried to escape?
Cthulhu: Oh fhtagn. Uh, how silly of me, I forgot I promised to pay Hastur a visit this century. Aldebaran is... that way, right?
Luna: Yup.
Cthulhu: you're the expert. bye!
(cthulhu flee at superluminal speed)

It looks more like Cthulhu is asking Luna if she has anything to cure the munchies.

"Ayo Luna; you got any cheetos you willing to sacrifice to me, lord Cthulhu?"

While my hopes would be on Luna, Cthulhu turned half of all the humans on Earth insane by twitching in his sleep and seeing him instantly turns any mortal (and some immortal) brain into mush. Not to mention the physical size...

Luna was defeated by rather feeble ponies in her ΓΌber form...

Ah. It's a character appearing in some of the stories by H.P. Lovecraft. An ancient being slumbering in a sunken city. When the stars are right he'll awaken and rise from the deep. Not unlike Nightmare Moon, actually.

Interesting, ive heard that only gods and goddesses can defeat C'thulhu, so Luna can do it with her horn sawed off by Pinkie Pie.

Mmmmmmm Moonpies..... XP

Afraid to ask about the horn sawing... o.O

Anyway, Cthulhu was beaten (temporarily at least) by a boat, so... yeah, Luna should have no trouble.

Not my Ponysona, Omega Crossfire, he could totally destroy her! You know why?

Because in his backstory, Nightmare moon was his teacher, but he ran away because he didn't want to be evil.

Luna, easy. If she controls the stars, and Cthulhu needs the stars to be right, how easy would it be to make them wrong?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

adcoon In reply to bitbrony [2011-07-13 17:06:03 +0000 UTC]

Heh, good point.

Has it been confirmed that she controls the stars, though? Only the moon is mentioned in the series, AFAIK.

Nightmare Moon supposedly uses the stars to escape, but if she could control them maybe she could have escaped earlier. I don't know.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

bitbrony In reply to adcoon [2011-07-14 03:17:36 +0000 UTC]

No, not confirmed, I guess, it's just the reasonable assumption to make. Definitely those 4 stars do help her
escape - perhaps it took her a thousand years to regain control?

I'm now imagining the New Lunar Republic using Cthulhu as a WMD ala Charlie Stross' "A Colder War", ie
"Back down or we make the stars go right and everypony gets eaten."

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

bitbrony In reply to bitbrony [2011-07-14 11:13:30 +0000 UTC]

Perhaps, although you could also argue they're darker and smaller (in Equestria-land), and you'd typically give the younger the easier sibling job, so not really proven either way.

And as far as Cthulhu-WMD goes, if you haven't read "A Colder War", it's online free and legal at [link] and is one of the
scarier modern Cthulhu mythos stories I've read.
Also free and worth reading is The Concrete Jungle [link] which is more like James Bond/John le CarrΓ© meets Lovecraft.

adcoon In reply to bitbrony [2011-07-14 08:05:36 +0000 UTC]

Depends on how you see it I guess... raising the moon and also thousands of stars seems like quite a bit more than what Celestia does. Maybe that's part of the reason Luna felt cheated.

I do like the idea of Cthulhu as a WMD.
