"Third rate villains? That little man just diggin' his own grave!" the Wrecker says as the Crew look for me, while I hide behind Cap's shield.
I mentioned to Ping that among my favorite superheros and supervillains was Captain America and the Wrecking Crew. I was pleasantly surprised when he included me in the illustration. I have this thing for third-rate supervillains, and the Crew certainly fit that description.

The best one I have. I've had other artists feature me in an illustration, but nothing like Ping has done.

Any time you want to collaborate, let me know. When I got in the business, all I wanted to do was ink superhero comic-books. Out of 80 published credits, I think less than ten are actually superhero related. The other 70 I did in the spirit of "d'yw wanna published credit, or not?"

Yeah, I guess we all came with the same desire, to be involved with superhero comics. Hey, who can blame us? That's the magic that dragged me to this work.

I'll tell you the origin of Addlesee (heh). There was Mommy and Daddy Addlesee....no...that's too far back.
I first saw comic-books at the age of three. They were DC Comics' Sgt. Rock, Johnny Cloud, Captain Storm, the Haunted Tank. A few years later, I discovered superhero comics. Captain America was my "first love". Others who became favorites were Hawkeye, Luke Cage, Deathlok, and Wolverine. I also developed a liking for the third-rate supervillains such as Batroc, Equinox, Firebrand (the first Firebrand), Flag-Smasher, Gladiator (Daredevil's old enemy), Killer Shrike, the Shocker, Scorpio, Taskmaster, Titanium Man (the old armor), Unicorn and the Wrecker led by Colonel Gideon Mace. I tried to emulate the styles of John Romita, Rich Buckler and John Byrne. In my teenage years, I drew comics for my own sake, and the few friends I had.
In the early 1980s, I aspired to be a pro. The reality was my pencilling skills just weren't what the big publishers were looking for. However, as an inker, I received more notice. However, after five years and 100 comic-book publishers, I was no closer to being published and/or paid, so I quit aspiring for several years. I was urged back into aspiring and finally achieved my first pro published credit as inker of POWER DEFENSE #1 by Miller Publishing in 1993. However, most of the 80 published credits are anything but superheroes. They were little more than resume padding in the hopes one of the big guns would see I was working and give me the nod. That never happened. My current series assignment is a movie adaptation. Carc and 'Slide is anthropomorphic adventure with some superhero characteristics.

That's a long route that you have there Mr. Addlesee. Your experience is far away But I hope you still have passion in this comic world.
I can say we have a different situation but yet has a similar result about this comics world. Back in era before 2000's it's really difficult to choose comic artist as a profession in Indonesia because there is no comic publisher here. Most of book publishers just buy royalty to publish existing comics (mostly manga). So there were no job for comic artist, especially when internet still very young. Most recent comic artists here depend on online offers, thanks to internet. Even though, very little of them could make it into big publishers. That's the reason for me to put aside the thought to become a pro comic artist all this time. Until this last two years, the thought still bugging me. So I need to do this so I won't wondering if I could make it or not.
I hope this industry more forgiven to me even though it is still just a hope. I keep reminding myself that doing this, it's like alone against the world. But if doing comic artwork is that I love to do, then it's worth to fighting for.

I don't have the passion I once had. Too many negatives and not enough positives contributed to that.
I just hope to keep getting published, get CARC & 'SLIDE published and maybe get some form of recognition.

I do hope you are successful in your endeavors; that you're actually paid and published.
If Haul Ink was more successful, I'd hire you to pencil a superhero series I have in mind.

The Crew's upset cuz I referred to them as third-rate villains. Thank you for adding this to your favorites.
