Incredible shot! May I ask what equipment you used? Did you use bellows or extension tubes? Maybe a close-up lens?
I have a Nikon d40 as well and I'm just getting into Macro Photography myself, so it would be a lot of help if you can let me in on how you took the shot...

I used extension tubes, I have a stacking set of three (in what combination, I don't really remember) attached to my standard 55-200mm Nikon DX AF-S Nikkor lens. Hope this imformation helps.

Awesome. I'm about to buy some equipment to help me out too. I've got a few closeup lenses that I'm waiting to ship, hopefully I can use my 180-300 tele/macro to shoot better macro shots.
I'll get some extension tubes and even some bellows pretty soon too.
Did you use a tripod for this or shot or was the light good enough to shoot in hand?

It was early afternoon light, not always the best for shooting pictures but it worked in this case...and the camera was "hand-held" while I was trying to scale up the side of a small hill and keep my balance.

Ah... well that' good to know. I guess it really depends on the Photographer on how he gets the shots huh?
