“I’m sorry to leave you like this,” Ayumi Nishimura, private detective, told the tearfully “mmmmphing” Tony as she placed a consoling hand on the tightly bound and gagged petty thief, “I know how uncomfortable it must be.”
Tony turned his wet and reproachful eyes at the young Japanese woman who smiled ruefully back at him.
“I know, honey,” the female PI acknowledged, “and I really appreciate your confession and all those leads you’ve given me but I have to go now and check it all out.”
Tony continued to gaze at the girl, reproach turning to resentment in his defeated stare.
“Look at it my way, sweetie,” Ayumi went on reasonably, “I wouldn’t be much of a detective if I went off and found everything you told me was a load of old nonsense and I couldn’t find you afterwards, would I?”
Tony simply continued to stare at her.
“Sorry, babe,” the young woman said and stood up, “guilt tripping doesn’t work on me. You sit tight. All being wel I’ll be back tonight for you.”
“Mmmmmph!” Tony protested as she went to leave the garage, rolling down the door as she did so.
“Don’t go anywhere now!” Ayumi giggled as Tony slowly disappeared from her view.
