This was a pretty common sight in my household growing up. Our stepmother was a fierce disciplinarian and could not abide rudeness or bad behaviour on the part of my elder brother or me. Unfortunately as Trevor got older, he got more defiant and his spankings became more frequent, longer and more anguish ridden as Trev tried to resist Gloria by refusing to cry while being walloped over her knee. Sadly for him, he usually burst into tears at some point. This humiliating episode happened repeatedly until he went to college and even once or twice during vacation.
