Description
"Why amn't I allowed out of the graveyard?"[...]"You aren't allowed out of the graveyard--it's aren't, by the way, not amn't, not these days--because it's only in the graveyard that we can keep you safe. This is where you live and this is where those who love you can be found. Outside would not be safe for you. Not yet."
"You go outside. You go outside every night."
"I am infinitely older than you, lad. And I am safe wherever I am."
[...]"I want to be like you," said Bod, pushing out his lower lip.
"No," said Silas firmly, "you do not."
Bod (left) and Silas (right) from Neil Gaiman's phantasmatastical new story The Graveyard Book. Silas is stepping out for the night, as he usually does, but Bod has one last question to ask.
Ahhhh, I've wanted to draw these two for so long--well, ever since I read the book at least. It feels like a long time.
Silas kicks ass. S'all there is to say.
Bod and Silas (and excerpt) (c) Neil Gaiman

I might use this in a presentation about The Graveyard Book. I hope that's alright!

Oh, wow. The atmosphere is amazing! I particularly like how you drew the clouds in the sky passing in front of the moon, and how the foreground is all silhouetted.
Is this all done in pencils? I am totally in awe of how smooth everything looks.

Thank you kindly! It's awesome getting such a wonderfulcomment from an artist as talented as you.
It's in charcoal, since I had a box of drawing supplies I'd never used and was feeling guilty about, and charcoal seemed right for the concept.
