Description I finally got around to putting together an influence map, and I couldn't even fit them all in! These are in no particular order. Please read the descriptions and check out these artists if you don't recognize their work.

EDIT: cghub was taken down, so several of these links are out of date. You'll just have to google some names to find galleries until I can update, sorry!

1. Sea creatures / underwater world: This is my biggest inspiration for creating art. It’s been my dream to put together a graphic novel of my underwater IP. Fascination/obsession – this is what I’m most passionate about.
2. Simon Dominic: Colors, brush strokes, detail, imaginative stuff – check out his gallery !
3. Wei Wang: One of the most iconic illustrators for Blizzard. I’ve included two images just because of how big of an influence he is!
4. Patrik Hjelm: Also known as UnidColor . The colorful and painterly strokes yet detailed textures are things I strive for in my own work.
5. Lois van Baarle: Someone who really grasps color, loish is another artist who finds inspiration in sea creatures. I’ve been following her for several years and even her sketches continue to floor me!
6. Laurel D. Austin: Another talented genius at Blizzard. I’ve been impressed with everything she’s done, both 2d and 3d! Check out her gallery !
7. Dan Luvisi: Not only is DanLuVisiArt ’s work some of the most influential in terms of detail and character development, his success is something I’ve witnessed from the beginning over 7 years ago – his achievements in bringing his own IP (Last Man Standing) to life is one of my biggest inspirations of encouragement.
8. Jana Schirmer: janaschi ’s work is clean and technical, yet somehow very painterly. She has an incredible talent for observing light, color, and texture. Her life drawings are unbelievable!
9. Jeremy Geddes: This traditional painter takes my breath away. His series involving birds, gravity, and astronauts, is one of the most moving collections of work I’ve seen.
10. Will Murai: Another artist with rendering skill I want to achieve someday… - a balance of painterly detail. Check out his gallery !
11. Dave Rapoza: Another artist hard at work on putting out his own IP, DavidRapozaArt ’s lighting has been a major influence on me. His dramatic style has brought life to characters never seen before.
12. Tuomas Korpi: One of my favorite environment artists. His worlds are full of character. His gallery has some truly imaginative stuff!
13. Goro Fujita: A genius with color – hugely influential. His robots may seemingly have simple designs, but they have an incredible expressive presence. Check out GorosArt ’s work!
14. Min Yum: Min Yum has some of the most beautiful brush strokes I’ve ever seen. His markings alone have me analyzing each piece for large chunks of my day, and his color choices make him one of my favorite artists.
15. Maxime Desmettre: Another incredible environment artist, Maxime’s body of work has impressed me for years. While I haven’t spent much time on environments, I consistently return to his gallery for inspiration.
16. Ruan Jia: Ruan Jia inspires me with color, brush strokes, and a unique quality I can’t quite put my finger on – the characters far from the cookie cutter standard of beauty (but still beautiful).
17. Beth Cavener: When I discovered Beth’s work, I was taken by surprise when I learned it wasn’t 2d – she’s a sculptor! Somehow she manages to sculpt in a way that resembles brush strokes. Her work is full of gesture and movement, another thing I plan to push in my own work.
18. Slawomir Maniak: Maniak’s work is a little grittier than most of what I tend to follow. However, a little grit is something I’ve wanted to incorporate in my own work.
19. Thom Tenery: Thom’s environments are not just landscapes – they are full of energy and activity, influenced by living organisms. His gallery is full of examples on how to make a world come to life.
20. Paul Bonner: Truly one of my biggest inspirations. I recently purchased his book and spent hours looking through every page. He seeks to capture a moment in time – characters full of expression, gesture, and movement. His color, lighting, brushwork, and level of detail are so inspiring, it’s almost intimidating… Buy his book. You need it in your collection!
