Finally, the reveal!
This image belongs to ME. You MAY NOT repost, share, or use this image in any way without express permission FIRST. I'm usually not picky about this, but I'm pretty proud of this project.
Preface
When I first joined the Rayman community back in 2019, revisiting my love for my childhood favorite game Rayman 2: The Great Escape, I dove headfirst into reimagining my favorite childhood villain. I soon became very busy creating lore, history, and making way more work for myself than I intended. And of course, as an avid cosplay fanatic, I discovered that no cosplay of Admiral Razorbeard yet existed. This I sought to change. And I quickly realized why no one had done so yet...man is fucking hard to draw let alone create an outfit for. It's his damn head. There's so much going on there, heckk-
The Journey
A project that has long since been in the making. Officially completed September of 2021, and is finally at the point of being revealed online (through more than just Instagram, yay). Posting was put on hold to ensure quality presentation when revealed and also balancing other projects, so I am very excited to be sharing this with you all here. To put it simply, this was one of the most difficult, time-consuming, and costly cosplays I have ever done. Well worth it.
It took bringing in a passionate and talented team of people involving a good friend who is a professional costume/cosplay designer, and an engineer in enterprise systems (happening to be her husband). Shout out to these amazing friends for making this dream become a reality. 💜🌌
I presented them with the idea and concept behind how I wanted it to look (based on anatomy theories I created that made sense for Razorbeard and how he might be put together in reality), and we were able to get a start on it. The biggest issue was figuring out how to arrange the hat, decorations, eyes, and beard all on one head. They expressed to me that this was a project you typically would build up to prior due to the many difficulties it presented to us all. But after several long months, and sleepless nights, this finally manifested into a very glorious, very badass-looking Robo Space-Pirate.
The total project cost exceeded $800 and took over a year to complete (mainly due to everyone having a life outside of being devoted geeks). Materials range from handmade, and self-altered, to store-bought. The belt and belt buckle, boot buckles, arm caps, shirt design, and headpiece/hat are wholly constructed by hand. I have progress shots I might post another day showing every step of this project and the process of each item being made.
The first run with this cosplay, I admit, was excruciating and painful. This current image, and following posts were from the first run. Since then it has undergone updates to make the outfit more wearable. Further updates are planned, such as upgrading the goggles, and hopefully forging a better beard made of actual metal (fuck yeah Razorbeard). Moving forward, you can expect to see a fully functional Admiral Razorbeard (if you follow me on other socials with video capabilities), heavily animated, yelling, and overall being an angry fucking metal sticker weed. Tread lightly. 💜💀
Extras
I want to say thanks to all my friends here and on other socials who have kept me motivated and kept my involvement in this fandom positive! You guys rock, and I appreciate all the uplifting feedback and amazing support you have given me as I've talked about this project elsewhere. Also in general. I love being here and being involved in this badass community. That's all for now! 💜💀🏴☠️🌴🍹
