Firstly, I love the colours present in this photograph; from the skin pinks to the blurred greens of the background. There is a varied tonal range from the foreground to the background which attract the eye immediately.

Secondly, I love the use of scale in this photograph. The contrast of the miniscule size of the ladybird with the fingertip highlights the fragility of the creature. It also works nicely as we already see the fingertip as a small object anyway, so this enhances the contrast of magnitude.

One thing I was quite puzzled by is the bokeh. While it is lovely bokeh, I did question whether it distracted from the subject. Perhaps showing more of the finger/thumb or digit would have allowed the subject to appear more in the frame? I'm not sure if this was intentional or not.

Overall, I like the colours and I like the moment you have captured. Wouldn't it be brilliant if the ladybird had extended its wings and you'd captured that too?! It would have made for a lovely 'stitched' photo.

And now for my rationale:

Vision - 4.5: You had a very clear vision here and attempted to capture it well.

Originality - 3.5: While I love the subject, this has been done before.

Technique - 4.5: I love your use of a shallow depth of field and the resultant bokeh. It emphasises the constrast in scale.

Impact - 5: The photograph does exactly what it should - convey a moment.

This is so cute and "...Hangar 8, preparing for liftoff" comment that you put was very funny and I do agree the close up of the ladybug is amazing, I have alot of those in my garden helping me with the bugs I find this insect to be one of my favorites keep up the great work with shooting photo's!
