I requested this version based on a short story in Myriad Universes Book 1: Infinity's Prism (synopsis below). Each book features stories that reveal how things would've gone if certain crucial events had played out differently (Khan wins the Eugenics Wars for example).
A LESS PERFECT UNION by William Leisner. More than a hundred years after the Terra Prime movement achieved its dream of an isolationist Earth, humanity is once again at a fork in the river of history… and the path it follows may ultimately be determined by the voice of a single individual: the sole surviving crewmember of the first Starship Enterprise.
In this story Earth never joined the Interstellar Coalition, and as a result the Federation was never born (and neither was Spock, though Sybok exists). It is 2264, and Commander James T. Kirk is First Officer aboard the United Earth Star Ship Enterprise, under the command of Captain Christopher Pike. Kirk hates the Vulcans, as six years earlier a Vulcan ship destroyed a transport, killing all aboard. Among those killed were Kirks wife Carol, and his three year old son David.
I highly recommend seeking this books out, as they are Treks version of Marvel's What If... and DC's Elseworlds.
