50 years in the past the first ultimate lifeform, Shadow, was created by the military to be the ultimate weapon. However his creator, Professor Jerald Robotnik had other plans. He created the ultimate lifeform to be the ultimate protector of the planet.

However the meathod the professor used was lost to time when he did and the research center was shut down. When the key ingredient was rediscovered over a century later the military once again embarked on a research project to create the ultimate weapon. This time they infused the lifeforms with the power of the Chaos Emeralds themselves.

Using this they created a single cell of the new creations. Using a process known as Project Genesis the cells were rapidly grown into their adult forms. Knowledge implanted into the minds as they rapidly aged.

As the lifeforms grew rapidly eight restraining bands were placed on them, two on each forming wrist and two on each anckle. These bands would allow the creations to tame the incredible powers of chaos at their command. Over these bands specially made gloves and shoes were place, made of materials capable of withstanding the storms of chaos to come in the future.

Then when all was said and done Project Genesis had run its course. The first of the capsules opened, as the original lifeform, Shadow, looked on.

A cold mist leaked out of capsule as it opened. Shadow went over the open capsule and looked at the new creation, who was his brother by blood.

As Shadow stood their, his hands resting on the sides of the capsule, the second ultimate lifeform opened its eyes for the first time. It was Ashura's start on life as he breathed his first lung fulls of fresh air.
