It all started with looking at the pill shape, the equal straight sides with rounded ends. I drew out the basic shape with varying degrees of contours matching the shape within. When happy I started to get it into the perspective and began painting in and populating various aspects of the inside dwelling. I wanted to convey the idea of an ecology of some sort outside the mars system. The middle hub rotates independantly to the rest of the station to allow ease of docking. The front armatures near the docking ring are mirrored to disperse light throughout the dwelling. Whether this shape would create a decent gravity for humans is left undecided, maybe go back to the original cylinder, I just thought the pill shape cool. Very nice illustration, but I have doubts if this shape would work as intended. I may be wrong on this one, but I think the people living on the wider side would experience weaker gravity the closer they got to the axis (with the weakest gravity directly "above/below" the axis). Moreover, because of the direction of the gravity, walking axis-ward would feel like climbing a steep hill.
Still, they might be a reason they want it like this - maybe the station was build to help people acclimate to planets with different gravities - for example, if you were born in a Moon base, the baseline Earth gravity would be to strong for you, so before moving to Earth you could rent a house at the Pill Station for a few months and each week move to a house further "down the slope" to give your body time to adapt. Just a thought.

Interesting ideas you have there...I was thinking along similar lines...The station might be a hydroponics bay where certain plants or medicines would benefit from different gravity fields.

I don't think I've seen anyone mix exactly these shapes or concepts for a space colony before. Several authors and artists have played around with Niven's Ringworld concept, of course, or Bernal spheres, or other well known structures, but this one is original in my experience. And like you, I'm not sure about how well gravity could be generated for the entire settlement (if it could); however, within the docking channel or for internal specific zones, maybe there could be smaller rotating chambers. Actually, in the sci-fi world, and when dealing with alien or "otherworld" technologies, who's to say there aren't other ways to create a g-force that us infantile Earthlings just can't conceive yet? That's half the fun of doing sci-fi, imo. Figuring out new stuff and trying it our for plausibility. This is très cool. Hope you decide to have more fun with this idea. Considering all the interest that's grown in recent years over the possibility of a Mars colony, it makes obvious sense to me for some to be thinking of how to design these type of structures, for a lot of reasons, actually, but to provide a safe haven in emergencies, create other sources for food and for research.... on and on. Yep. Would love to see more of this. Well done.
