I agree with your earlier comment, a situation like this would have added a lot to Mewtwo's character. It would have been more realistic for him to have remained at the lab longer, with the kind of physical weaknesses and early difficulties in controlling his powers as you described. (This is just me, but I like the idea of him also being blind or nearly blind as a result of being in that dark tank all of his life) Another great piece brought to life with great lighting and atmosphere, really something out of a horror film.
One thing that's easy to forget (though it's clearer in the original Japanese dub of the movie) is that for all his power and intelligence, Mewtwo is really a child (and a traumatized one at that), which makes this all the more disturbing.
I'm curious about the table that Mewtwo is strapped to. Did you design it, or is it based on something? It's just not something that I've seen before, and it reminds me almost of a reclined dentist's chair.
Also, I'm guessing that's Giovanni in the window?

Thank you for commenting)) I agree with you that he is really a child in some sense, and all events which hurt his soul look very cruel. Β
I didn't think about his possible blindness from birth, but I had thoughts that Mewtwo might lose his sight in a very early age. This is very sad. But such attitude will ensure him a lot of health problems.
What about operating table I don't remember, I just found some references in internet.Β
And that's cool that you noticed Giovanni))Β

You know, when you think about it, there's really no end of potential problems Mewtwo might suffer from. After all, he was the only surviving subject of many years of attempts to perfect the cloning process. What if, sort of like River Tam in "Firefly," he suffers from mental problems resulting from his extreme powers? What if he needs regular medical treatments just to keep functioning? What if his lifespan is limited? (Any of these would have made Giovanni furious.)

In the English cut of the film, the scientists seemed intent solely on creating the world's most powerful pokemon.Β But in the original Japanese, the head scientist's real goal was to perfect the cloning process in order to defeat death and revive his deceased daughter, so Mewtwo was simply the means to get funding from Giovanni and theΒ lab rat by which the scientists could perfect the process, and Mewtwo himself meant nothing to them except as a means to get what they really wanted. In that light, it’s easy to imagine the scientists being less concerned with his well-being than one might think. Adding that to the scenario you've presented here, this raises some interesting questions. How would Giovanni have reacted if his new "weapon" was imperfect? I doubt he would have the patience to wait long while Mewtwo underwent these tests, and would probably have ordered Mewtwo destroyed and the project either scrapped or done over if he thought Mewtwo was too weak. And since the process used to create Mewtwo was (supposedly) completely new, it's understandable why the scientists might make the mistake of underestimating Mewtwo, because they honestly didn't know what the results would be.

We the audience laugh at the scientists for making such stupid mistakes and underestimating a creature that they should KNOW could kill them all in a second, but it makes a lot more sense this way. Here you can have Mewtwo start off weak and unable to control his powers, and the scientists not knowing just how powerful he was or foreseeing how quickly he would advance. They might even start to give up on him and grow lax around him near the end, maybe receiving orders from Giovanni to terminate him (or at least hearing rumors that it would soon happen) because he wasn’t showing improvement.

Sorry that got a little long.

I find it difficult to answer, because my English is poor( As already mentioned in my comments, I have a vision that is described in fanfiction. I can not recount all, I'm sorry. I can say that there Mewtwo had many health problems from the side effects of drugs, accelerated growth and lack of movement, as well as unformed immunity. And, of course, he did not live a long life. But Giovanni was not necessary if Mewtwo has a healthy body, he needed only the strongest psychic, albeit constantly on the life-support system (so it would be even easier to control him). In this case, the creation of Mewtwo was not the cloning process, but rather hybridization. In this case, Professor Fuji has not studied cloning on it, but just wanted to get the money for it, that would help him get closer to his personal goal - the "resurrection" of his daughter. That's what I think)

Such words make my very glad, great thanx)) I want more attention on this side of Mewtwo's life, 'cause this is what made him a person he is - not only fact that he is creation of science, as it shown, but the attitude towards him as a lab rat.
Yes, it was just speed drawing, but maybe that's why this stuff looks so tense)Β

You are very welcome, indeed. Β It's nice to give and get pleasant feedback. Β And I'm right with you there, I remember seeing the Pokemon The First Movie, and the way Mewtwo's life in the science laboratory was portrayed left a real impact on me. Β Figures, since it's practically the only thing I remember from the movie. Β I was very young when I saw it.

adriansvetozaroff In reply to Drifter-Dx [2014-06-24 20:57:26 +0000 UTC]

Well, yes, according to the first film he escaped before it. But I was trying to write a fanfic where a more realistic course of events was shown. In my opinion, Mewtwo could not immediately escape, since birth even if he knew about his power, he could hardly hold it good. Also, I think he had some developmental disorders, such as muscle atrophy due to inactivity during the accelerated growth in vitro. Therefore, he could be subject to certain surveys (and medical interventions, if necessary) and tests. I think after this Mewtwo runs not only from all the world, but also from his past.
