The reason this wasn't released in America until recently is because most of the studio ghibli films were put out by Disney. Disney didn't want to release it because of the scence with the period. ( I don't know if that is in it I haven't seen it yet but that's what I read online). Then From up on Poppy Hill to When Marine was there was released by gkids. Gkids then released Only yesterday.

i saw it but ... i didn't think it was great. it had a deep meaning deffinetly and was well displayd but for some reason it didn't exactly catch my heart. Would you mind telling me why you think it was so glorious? maybe i just oversaw the real meaning to it.

First watched this back in '99 (film festival).  Been waiting for it to arrive in the US ever since (and EVEN NOW I STILL HAVE TO WAIT -- not shown in any of my local theaters ).
