Actually, I took your's and some other people's advice and tweaked the cloud a bit. Never quite got what I had envisioned, but it looks better now.

It came out really nice, I like the way the clouds wrap around the mountain and sit against the slopes on the left now.

Great render; personally, I'd expect the clouds to be a bit further away and a bit more of a hint of yellow in the sky, but I'm just guessing. The mountains are totally amazing--it would be great to see them without clouds.

I have a new render going right now with less clouds, should show some of the peaks more.

Well I thought it was a photograph at first!

Very well done render! I can never seem to get textures for moutains to look this realistic and good, i have never tried tera but vue/bryce.

Nice.

Thanks, Sue. I started with Bryce but never really got the hang of it. Vue rocks though, from what I've seen.

Cool render, Jeff! Nice clouds and surface. To vary the perspective, use the "Alt +left click" to rotate, Alt + middle click to zoom or move back and forth and the Alt + right click to move the camera side to side or up and down (from melting ice's tut on "Migrating from Terragen 0.9 to TG2; other excellent tuts available by meltingice at [link] ). Another way of changing the point of view is by randomizing the seed- at least on a "Power fractal" [terrain]. Assuming this is a TG2 render. My bad if it's not.

Looking forward to seeing more from you!

Aeires In reply to fractalinda [2007-03-30 14:39:23 +0000 UTC]

I know about the "alt" tricks to move the camera around, but is there a way to move just the clouds? What I wanted to do is have the cumulous clouds more to the right where the entire image was covered but couldn't find a way to do it. I did hit some new parameters this morning that I wasn't aware of when I made this. I got a little more balance from it, should be posted when I get home from work.

There are so many more options with T2, kinda feel overwhelmed a bit. I'd place T2 right up there with UF for the amount of variations it gives you. Still want to learn how to make planets and add plants, but I'll get there. Thanks for the link.

Someone on the Terragen list (Jim) at yahoogroups suggested "plugging the cloud's Density Fractal shader into a new Transform
shader's Shader Input" but I haven't tried that myself. I work with density and coverage.. Sometimes, I delete the clouds and start over- to get a new formation in refence to positioning, but there's got to be a better way.

I understand the "feel overwhelmed a bit." I still do, but not like in the beginning. I've yet to venture into adding planets and populations, etc. One of these days, I'll get braver!

that is one badass render my friend. wow. I am fussy with the landscape renders - but this has actual depth to it well done!

Aeires In reply to oibyrd [2007-03-30 14:32:56 +0000 UTC]

I look at the images on the terragen site and really get excited at what this can do, but I know I'm miles away from that. I do think this version is much better though, just have to give it the time I gave to fractals all those years.

It's kinda strange, the preview render was thinner but after a long full render they were more opaque. Have to experiment with them more, and I found some new terrain options making this so hopefully some better mountains next time.
