I feel like this series is under-appreciated. The art for the show is simple yet whimsical and there are only 12 episodes (1 hour each)! Plus the twist in the end is worth waiting for!
Shichika and Togame's relationship is so cute...but then...I don't want to spoil it for you guys. You gotta watch it! The idea for this image actually came from the final two episodes except I ommitted one crucial element to avoid soilers. To those who watched it before can you guess what it is?

I really liked this show until the last episode. The ending broke my heart and ruined it for me. I'm one of those guys who need the happy ending, or the whole series is pointless to me. That said, this is a really good show worth watching, with excellent animation and emotion behind the characters.

Your welcome! It is a short show episode-wise, but when you consider most anime episodes are 30 min long, you're really getting the same amount of time as a 24 episode series. I couldn't finish the last episode, so I wanted to know: did they bury her in the ending? and were the Deviant Blades destroyed?
Man, I'd love to get in contact with the author of the novel and beg him/her to make another ending or alternate book.

You should finish the ending, it's pretty good. It puts a bit of closure on the whole thing.
I vaguely remember that he moved on after her death (it's implied that her buried her, but I don't think they showed it). The Deviant blades were all destroyed in one huge badass fight scene, which was so incredibly moving. Seriously, watch it!

I would watch the ending, but i'm just now getting over the sadness I acquired after seeing togame die. I'll probably watch it after some more time passes.
What I was enjoying the most about the show was the slowly developing relationship between the two of them. It had good pacing and so many 'dawww' moments. So seeing that relationship ripped away in the last episode was a bit (okay, lot!) depressing for me, I really hate sad endings.
I would be interested in a sequel or spinoff that could bring togame back and reunite her with Shichika in the end, maybe something like following the path Shichika is using to make their map. You could delve even deeper into her background and emotions in it.

OMG I know exactly how you feel. When she got shot, OH MAN, OH MANN MY HEART LITERALLY WRENCHED IN MY CHEST AND I SOBBED HARD. And Shichika's expression, his shock, his heartbreak, just killed me. I had to watch it over and over again just come to terms with her death. I honestly could not believe what I was seeing. All that blossoming love wiped away by one bullet.
That said, the next episode really does make up for it, kinda. No, not really, but let's just say Shichika feels our anger. He channels it and kills everyone. He turns very cold, but warms up a bit in the end. He gets a fresh new start. I just wish Togame was there to see it.
I would be interested in a sequel, spinoff or alternate ending, too. It saddens me that they couldn't be together. That's what fanfic is for, I guess. But I haven't read any Katanagatari fic, and I don't think I'll make any because the fandom is quite small. But it's a nice thought.
