Description
In case you haven't noticed yet, springs and water in general play an important role in my story, "Testament". This spring in particular is sacred and also the royal tomb. It's my first environmental painting as well. Had a hella time trying to get my values right but I guess this is fine. I have a lot of improving to do but this is the first step, doing it and having fun.Edit: Well the DD was unexpected! Thank you `SylwiaTelari for the suggestion and ^Gwendolyn12 for the feature. Thank you as well to everyone that views, comments or favorites this piece. Nothing honors me more than being able to make something others can appreciate as much as I do.

My dear....never let anyone tell you a mouse hinders you. I've seen brilliant digital paintings done with a mouse and I myself have only been using a tablet for about 2 years now. Before then every picture I did was done with a mouse and lemme tell ya....it didn't lack quality. No one starts off drawing well. I have a number of friends that started off drawing stuff similar to yours and within 2 years time they've surpassed me. It's not the tools, its the artist.

*bows down* Your words inspire me greatly, oh powerful one! I try to draw and shade and stuff, but sometimes my brother bumps me or something.. I'll keep trying, I probably won't get to the amount of detail in your artwork for a while longer but I'll keep trying.. I'll just draw and stuff whenever I can, seeing I own a puppy who makes mess everyday since everyone in the house has to go somewhere during the week. The only thing that confuses me now is how to get that much detail. I can't even do hair all to well..

I'm far from powerful. To get detail you just have to use a small brush and take your time.

Both can be done with just a mouse. I don't know what program you're using but I know for a fact that both can be done using sai and photoshop...probably with different tools but that all depends on how well you know the program you use. Generally ANYTHING you need to know you can find out on dA if you search for the tutorial you need. I personally don't recommend getting a tablet. A lot of the good artists you see on dA started with a mouse...I should know because I've had the pleasure of following them since they first posted online. Also you'll fall into the same trap of thinking you can only do anything if you have a tablet, BUT if you insist on getting one you can get cheap ones between $40-80USD. I think if you're just learning thats all you need to start. I myself only use a cheap tablet that was originally purchased for about $45 and as you can see I'm not any better or worse for it. Now as for the other stuff like your brother and dog...well that all depends on how you manage your private time. Cant help there, but I can recommend drawing resources as you need them if you choose to pursue art further.

Thank you, I use Gimp though. tools like the air brush and stuff is still there but it might be harder.

Haven't tried gimp but having used different art programs since 2000 I can assure you it's all pretty much the same.

Gimp isn't to easy to use but I've been experimenting with the different tools for ages so I've basically figured it out..

Nothing is easy to use at first. I've been using the same programs for YEARS and I'm still JUST starting to figure things out. I only just learned how to draw a circle in photoshop last week for pete's sake lol.

In gimp, I learned how to use circles ages ago. Mainly jut because I spent one whole day playing with the different tools and experimenting.

On first sigh, this actually reminded me immensely of the lake/pond cutscene in Final Fantasy X where Tidus and Yuna first kissed.

Unfortunately I couldn't help but notice that myself. Not that I was expecting to be original, but I at least hoped to do something that wouldn't blatantly look like it came from something else. I plan to rework the landscape later on but thank you.

It starts with a wish, then a drive, and it all becomes real the moment you pick up your pen/mouse. The possibilies are only as great as the artist's will. Build up, not only your skill, but your imagination, motivation and sight for art and you'll do great things.

well, thats not entirely true. I draw a lot on paper, and have since I was little. I just don't really know how to computerify scan

It's not hard to learn, that is if you really do wish you were better. All it takes is some time browsing around dA/youtube/google. WAY more resources around compared to when I first learned. Back then all me and my friends knew came from messing with MS paint.

Having fun is very important when working on a project because you never wan to tire yourself out and make it seem like a chore. This is beautiful and I love the play on color here. Where it is mostly hues of blue you have red accents and sheens of white. Great work and I can't wait to see the new images.

Telling myself it's all about the fun right now is what's keeping me from being harsh on myself lol. In retrospect I already want to repaint this but repaints can come later. Regardless it's still not terrible for a first attempt. Last year I could barely paint a background, but yeah I want to do a lot of contrasting colors in this part of the world.

I tell myself the same thing but yet I am still very hard on myself which is another reason why I take my time with my art pieces. I have a lot of things to redo just unsure of which one to start. And be happy you can now do a background. I am still learning to do them. I have a water color one thus far but I need to attempt painting one later.
