Description I Decided to draw some shy guys
I Thought it would be a good opportunity to practice using tone

I don't really know how to blend colours well without the smudge tool
I feel like the smudge tool is kinda cheating and I feel it is often quite messy
so instead I just used black and added tone as if I were drawing on paper with a sketching pencil

I decreased the contrast between the black and the colour by lowering the Opacity of the black marks
This made the black marks looks like darker shades of the colours used
I decided to add the black border around it to make it stand out more

created on Adobe Photoshop CS6

Wow, this is super AMAZING!!!

I love the way this has been shaded, which indeed does bring out the drawings and the details!

It's interesting you use Photoshop as I do as well.

Amazing? you really think so?
well thank you!
that's very nice of you to say

I use Photoshop for all of my digital art
I know people that like to use Paint Tool SAI
but I've always used Photoshop
it's just what I am used to

well keep drawing and you are sure to get better in time
but remember that just the practice alone can only help you improve to a certain extent
you need to also gain more knowledge and understanding of how art is created
you need to study the tools and techniques used to create the art

That all is true although, I do have my ways on Photoshop that work well with me, but I indeed believe my art style has gotten better with more practice...

I have experimented with several art tools on Photoshop and that is how I discovered certain ones I can work well with.

Also how art is created for me is through imagination as I create an image in my head and began outlining what I see to a piece of paper.

you should focus on improving your skills in both digital art and traditional art
it's very important to learn how to master drawing with pens and pencils
as it will help you when are you drawing digitally

so when I said tools and techniques that means traditional art as well
chalk, charcoal, pens, pencils, paint, pastels, crayons, ink
using different textures and materials
learning pencil shading techniques

studying existing art and objects will help you create your own original pieces

Actually, the way I start off is drawing by hand with a pencil and then transferring them to computer to add in the color and shading effects. Other than that, I have been used to coloring with Oil Pastels but that's pretty much it for that. Overall I do really appreciate your advice!
