Description
As the title says, yet another creature. Trying to bust out of it, but this doodle just happened, and then I had to add some ink, and then shade the background and stuff. At the very least, I need to start drawing them from different angles (other than left-facing profile - seriously, most of my creatures are facing left) and in dynamic poses and using better reference from real animals. Also I should be working on those 10k kiribans instead..So for this drawing, it's all murky due to being photographed (teh horror!) due to me visiting family and being away from my scanner, so I tried to make it less like a poorly lit photo with some texture bs.
I'll probably update this with a cleaner, crisper, scanned version later.

Thanks! I love having doodles start out sort of blah and then manifest into something more put together - that's pretty much what happened here.

This is really cool! I would love to see whole creature. I also wish I had as much skill as you. You used eraser on it's neck didn't you? Pretty neat idea to make the viewer focus more on it's head.

Thanks! Maybe I'll draw the whole creature soon!
I actually didn't use much eraser at all here. I started on white paper and shaded around what I left white - it makes the white highlights really pop.

Thanks! I like adding some extra effect when I post pencil sketches. I love stuff like old field illustrations, so really like emulating that vibe.

Aww thanks! John Howe's stuff is pretty damn awesome though.. sucks that his website is laid out so poorly - gotta click a million times to see a just a few of his works.

yeah true, but his paintings are far better than his drawings, he's so damn skilled in watercoulour!

I do like the detail you put in these, what with all the scraggly fur and such. It's quite cool! C:
And for some reason, I usually draw stuff facing left as well. There must be something interesting going on to the left.

Thanks!
Yeah, I developed the left-facing thing ages ago. Being right-handed, it let me start with the creatures head and then draw its body, all the while being able to have what I'd already drawn not covered by my hand. Then I got used to it and it became the fastest and easiest, and never got any better at different poses or the right-facing profile. Slowly busting out of it though, now that I'm acutely aware of it.

Thanks! But hmmm.. not sure how much eraser I actually used - I did use it a bit to blend/even out the background (which is rubbed in graphite) and clean up some excess chicken scratch that goes with the process. I actually added the white highlights in Photoshop - due to the photographed picture looking dingy and losing some of its contrast.
