Description
Acrylic on 50cm x 50cm Canvas.
This is a REALLY dark painting, too dark perhaps. I wasn't able to get a decent photo that captured all of the colours and contrast correctly.
I'm so tired of seeing unicorns as being little white cartoony horses with horns that fly through the sky with the power of friendship and fart rainbows and shit butterflies.
In fact, medieval unicorns were described as looking like goats not horses!
In my opinion, unicorns represent a much different type of magic. They represent our deepest imagination, our darkest fears, our secret desires. They are the goosebumps you get when you look at a magnificent painting, or the tears that come from listening to your special song. At the moment, that's the 4th and 5th movements of Mahler's 2nd, and the pantomime scene from the Cunning Little Vixen for me.
(Please comment the songs that make you feel like that, I'd really love to hear them).
They represent catharsis, Stendahl syndrome, inspiration, writer's block, euphoria, despair, and everything in between.
This unicorn in particular is very special to me. They are not so much a character or a design, but rather a spirit. I see them whenever I look at plants, the sky, the land, animals, microbes, and most importantly, myself. They symbolize the constant cycle of birth, life, and death. They symbolize the creation of new things, and the inevitable and equal destruction of the old. They are the dull orange glow of dawn, the scorched sunburned land in the height of summer, and the majestic cumulonimbus on the horizon after a storm.
They are nameless, genderless, as all things really are, but I refer to them by two names: Kalbadi and Dachenagosh. Both meaning Forest Spirit in Teraf and Chevarin respectfully (those are two of my conlangs).
However, the Kalbadi is only mortal, and I believe they are dying. They are being killed humans. Murdered. But when they die, all those that tried to kill them will die with them, and they will reincarnate as something new and beautiful. And the world will eventually return to the paradoxically turbulent, yet peaceful status quo of pure chaos and absurdity that we humans are so deeply afraid of.
I realise that I could have waited a couple of days and posted this as a "Junicorn" painting. Oh well, I'm not really into those sort of things anyway.
