Alviiiiiiiiiiiis~ Oh hey, Xenoblade fanart again. Somehow I won't stop producing xDAnd yeah, Alvis is my favourite character (aside from Shulk)
(I think he's rather attractive 
)In my opinion he needs WAY more love and fanart, considering how important he is (can this already be counted as spoiler?? I think now that they make a remake of XC everybody needs to be careful with that kind of thing again, considering that Xenoblade spoilers are MASSIVE o.o)
I never imagined it could turn out THAT good, but yeah, it kinda did *______* (But this wasn't done without reference from a screenshot I took from one of the actual cutscenes... hehe xD)
This is the first huge pic I did without using outlines, also I painted on one layer all the time, I wanted to test my skills ^^

I think you did a really great job in depicting his mysterious atmosphere!
I like the duality of the colour scheme, as well as Alvis' mysterious look on his face... also I wonder what the key is actually used for.... hmmm.....
(Surely you could start being pre-cautious again because of potential spoilers, then again... the original game has already been out for 2 years, so people should know that if they'd research anything online they could get spoilered...)

well, that's one thing I've been trying to improve on myself being here on dA... because before I'd have 132 deviations in my inbox, and I'd just click 131 pieces away... and I thought that was a waste because if I were to create art, then I'd also want people to give their criticism or viewpoint on them... so hence why my replies are a bit more long and constructive than before xD

I still wonder if Alvis is the on board computer of the vessel they were on, and hence his "key" refers to the original "monado" or that he was also just an observer in that science experiment that went wrong

I know that, it is a shame, really. I mean, I am not that much better, but at least I am trying to say something constructive or at least related to the picture, it really is annoying how like 50% of most comments are, just like you said, nothing more other than "cool" or something like that -_-
Yeah, DA really is about showing your art to the world and share your knwoledge and experience with others to help them improve and improve yourself ^^

He definately was that computer, although a key, to me, symbolizes something to open things, or metaphorically, secrets. But it could also keep a secret, so maybe it is referring to how Alvis is the only one who knew everything and is the real Monado and kind of the "key" to the whole story...

Although I personally believe he isn't really on any side because he seems to be on side with Zanza, but actually does help Shulk a lot more XD
But that's just my personal opinion, I mean, he kind of remains a mysterious character all along ^^

Well, he helps out Shulk more than Zanza. I believe he just "betrayed" Shulk and the others for appearance's sake, so Zanza wouldn't get suspicious. I mean, he feeds Shulk tons of information and helps him unlock more powers. I'd say that makes it pretty obvious whose side he's on...

ok, now I got curious and read some discussions about alvis xD
So upon destroying the old universe Zanza and Meyneth became gods of the new one, and the computer that initiated everything became Alvis, only now in the form of the Monado, but still under Zanzas control. Zanza needed a vessel, and chose Shulk randomly. Until Zanza would be strong enough to exist on his own Alvis had the instructions to protect that vessel (that's why he helped Shulk all the time

Can't say I agree with this, though it is sure interesting ^^ Right at the end of the story, when Shulk becomes a "god", Alvis confronts him with illusions of his friends essentially making fun of him for being a god (Reyn especially), because Alvis doesn't want Shulk to follow the path of Zanza, I guess. Shulk wouldn't have, anyway, and scolds Alvis for not trusting him to make the right choice. This contradicts most of what you just wrote, I'm afraid... I don't know how dependant Alvis was on Zanza, and it might be that he was under his control to some extent. However, Alvis acquired a conscience, and, as his body is mobile, it is possible for him to act independently. It's true that Alvis started out as a computer, and that he describes himself as such to Shulk, but I do think he became something more - and that he was able to make his own decisions. Keeping Shulk alive so Zanza can use him of course makes sense, but tell me why he taught Shulk how to save his friends, if Shulk was the only one that mattered ^^ He could've just let Sharla die, for example.

Hm, I watched the scene again, and I think you are probably missing out some parts ^^
It is right that Alvis does create the illusions of the others, but only to help Shulk decide, since Shulk seemed uncertain about it. So yeah, Reyn does make fun of him, but that’s because he is Shulk’s best friend and that’s probably what he would really say xD. Fiora remembers Shulk that they don’t “want to be gods anyway”. The rest of the group merely says that they want to live every day as it comes, because live is about not knowing what the future is and so on…
Alvis even apologized for that afterwards and explained that he had reasons for this, since the world in the current state had “little time remaining”, so Shulk needed to get to a conclusion fast. When Alvis tells Shulk he is the new god he also really stresses that the fate of the new world is his choice only, as he says “it is yours to decide”.
Of course there are some things that are not really explained, for example why Alvis is in the service of the High Entia and so on…
The visions Shulk had that helped him to save his friends came from the Monado, (which is Alvi), or maybe from the power of Zanza who was inside him, but he could never control those visions, nor could Alvis or Zanza, for that matter (for example near the end of the game Zanza is frustrated about how he can never see the outcome of the battle with Shulk).
Of course Alvis has his own body, and is to some extent able to make own decisions and act on his own, but in the end he had always been a computer. Only when Shulk creates the new world without gods I believe Alvis is kind of freed from his fate of being a computer or the Monado or whatever and to really become an individual being ^^

I think you misunderstood my comment - I might have phrased it a little poorly, too ^^ my point was not Reyn making fun of him, but that Alvis CHOSE to show Shulk this vision. No-one told him too, and he might as well not have done it. This shows again that Alvis can make his own decisions without being ordered what to do.
And I wasn't talking about the visons, either - when Shulk, Reyn and Sharla fight that Mechon at Spiral Valley, Shulk forsees her death and fears it will be just like with Fiora - and wonders if he can save her. Alvis, in his mind, says, "Of course you can." And bam, he's learned Monado Speed. Or, when Alvis and Shulk are attacked by Telethia, he teaches him Monado Seal. Of course, in this case, he is actively keeping Shulk alive. But there really was no reason for Alvis to teach him Speed...
... does Alvis even survive the creation of the "new" world? I, at least, didn't see him during the epilogue...

And I see now what you meant, it makes sense! xD So Alvis probably really does have a real own will.
I don't now, it is implied that he Kind of "dies", but I would rather just call it "seizes to exist", since the world Shulk wished for wouldn't feature a being like Alvis, which has the ability to change everything (almost like a god). So Alvis just wouldn't be "transported" into the new world, unlike everything else (all the characters and so on...).
However, Shulk says to Fiora in the end "do you remember what Alvis said to us the last time we saw him?". You could interpret it as soemthing like his last words, but I just like to think that it means he is still alive somewhere, they just don't know where he is, maybe, and haven't seen him in a long time... (but that's actually just me not wanting my favourite character to be gone XDDD)

Ah, I see. It's been a while since I last played the game, so my memory of those scenes is a bit hazy ^^
But I know that thing about favourite characters - I gave Kratos from Tales of Symphonia a different ending in my fanfic, because I hated the one he got. So he's finally been reunited with his son, and what does the jerk do? Board a comet and fly away. Great.

I think it's the same with Ike from Fire Emblem, like, all the charas have a proper ending, and the you finally get to him, the most important person, and it's just like "He left Tellius and was never seen again". I mean, what? xD

Yup, I mean that part of the ending sucked A LOT. My brothers and I agreed on that, and we didn't often agreen on stuff when we were young.
I never thought that Ike's ending was particularly bad - though it is kinda mean of him to abandon everyone. Does Mist take over leadership in his stead? Just a random thought I just came up with ^^ But, if you get an A-support with Ike and Soren, they'll leave together (which will greatly improve Ike's chances of survival, since he's not the brightest guy around ^^) But exploring a new continent sounds like it would be fun. And he probably got tired of people worshipping the very ground he walked on XD So, his ending in no way compares to Kratos' ending. But I still rewrote it in my fanfic, because I felt I could do a better job than the writers ^^ and because I thought that Ike leaving was a bad idea.

Oh, never really thought about Ike's famousness that way, but now that you say it, I can actually imagine there woule be a lot of people doing that... Poor Ikey xDDD

Ah, I didn't know that Ranulf could go with him - I always did A-support with Soren, for the special ending and because those two are awesome in combat ^^ And I didn't really use Ranulf all that often.
