Description
A certain lovely someone has got me doing a Supergirl piece - I'm not normally a fan of Supergirl - I'm a Powergirl enthusiast, actually. However, I like how this random sketch turned out... And it wasn't even originally meant to be Kara. So colored it and threw it up on here, hope y'all like.Pencils & inks: About an hour, maybe a little more.
Colors: About 7 hours - but was experimenting with something so it's not an accurate assessment.
She's got giant hooker-hoops (man I love those things, I've got like 3 pair and I hate earrings) because I was originally sketching a stripper... Yes a stripper.)

Why Powergirl over Supergirl?
Just wondering

PG's series is so cute. It's light-hearted, fun, and utterly a joy to read. Amanda Connor's art is stunning. I'm also a big JSA fan, and her presence in All-Star's is making the series a win win, considering it's got a cast made of some of my favorite newer characters.
And the only things I've read with Kara I haven't really liked her in - admittedly though I've only seen her in peripheral roles.

Wow--never thought I'd see Kara...quite like that.
Pity the poor bastard who does this to her and her cousin finds out.

Kara is fun Ever since I saw the scans shipping Owen/Kara at Flash_Rogues, I've been totally enamored with the idea of their relationship *evil grin* Especially after Owen got booted from the Outsiders and went back to doing the Rogue thing (at least so it would seem from the scans I've read) I need to get these Supergirl books with his so I can read his/their whole story
(Yeah, I'm THAT much of a dork! XD)

I've got the Terra trade that has the Owen/Kara cuteness in the first chapter of it. Owen got booted from the Outsiders because he was recruited by the Suicide Squad XD. I do love the thought of 'untold story' there. I liked Kara well enough on Smallville. I'm just not really following the Super-family core storylines. I read Kon's stuff because it's KON and PG is really more JSA based...

Oh! Please let me know the issues! The time line is so wanky, and I only have all the Flash issues with Owen (Loves me some Flash! XD) And of course Identity Crisis as well as the Suicide Squad I just bought the Outsiders run 34-48 (need to get 49) and the annual as well as the Five of a kind mini. I'm doing my research! LOL! As for Smallville, I liked that show for the first few seasons, but by the time Louis stepped in on the scene, I was getting bored and elicting an eye roll through half of the plot twists. Green Arrow was cool, but a lot of the concepts were getting old. It looks like the past couple seasons have been good, so I may go back and watch them at some point, but there are just too many other good things like Lost, Fringe, Venture Bros, etc out there to watch
As far as the Supes, never really been my cup of tea either. Kingdom Come was an interesting series, but over all, I follow characters over titles (although I do follow a lot of titles ... too many really as I collect about 60+ books a month! LOL! What do you read?

The cute scenes I've got from Kara/Owen are from Supergirl #12 - I know there are a ton more but they're all I've got
Actually I'm a HUGE Ollie/Lois fan. In Smallville their relationship just caught me so hard. (Then again Green Arrow in general is one of our ultimate series.)
I aaaadored Kingdom Come - Red Hood Lian! <3 It and Identity Crisis are the two I've re-read until I need new trades of them.
Ah gyah... What I'm currently following or picking up when it starts:
Guild
Brightest Day
Green Lantern
Green Lantern Corps
Green Lantern Emerald Warriors
Flash
JLA
JLA: Generation Lost
Batman & Robin
Batman: Widening Gyre
Batman
Batman: The Return of Bruce Wayne

Supergirl 12 eh? What Volume?
And YES! Kingdom Come and Identity Crisis are so worth multiple reads! XD I noticed from you list that you are mainly only into DC? Here is my list: (copy/pasted from an email to my comic dealer! LOL! XD)
Air
Angel (Current series, some minis/ one shots)
Avengers (New, Mighty, Initiative)
Batman: (Batman, Confidential, Gotham City Streets, Detective)
Battlefields
Boys
Buffy
Dark Avengers (So sad this is coming to an end! *sniff*)
Dark Tower
Deadpool: (Deadpool, Merc, Team-up)
Fantastic Four
Flash (When it restarts of course! XD)
Ghost Rider
Gotham City Sirens
Hellblazer
Iron Man (Invincible)
Marvel Zombies
Moon Knight
Ms Marvel
Project Super powers
Punisher: (Max, Vol 8)

The Stand (Big Stephen King fan, most of his stuff, like the soon to come n. series, I will want )
Thor
Unwritten
War Machine
Wonder Woman
Cap Theatre of War
Black Widow (Origins, Marvel girls)
What If (Most What Ifβs Iβm interested in)
Any specials or one shots for: Blackest Night, House of M, Civil War, Secret Invasion, Dark Reign, Siege, etc that Iβm collecting )
Characters:
Loki, (Most all Thor specials as I love them so! Also, most anything with Punisher, Iron Man, Ghost Rider) Flash Rogues, Deadshot (most things Secret Six!) Riddler, Poison Ivy, Harley, (I like bat villains, if a special is coming out, Iβll most likely be interested! ) Captain America specials (I seem to like his one shots a lot, but I donβt have any of his series) The Hood, Hellstorm, Ghost Busters, Gambit (if itβs a one shot or special as Iβm so burnt on the X-men :/ There are a couple more of their characters I dig though if they have a special: Mystique and Sabertooth) Cloak & Dagger, (Doctor Doom and Deadpoolβ¦ these two are comic whores, so Iβm a bit more selective depending where they are appearing, but any one shots or minis for definite! XD)
(end copy/paste

Mine was copy/pasted too ^_^. Uh I don't have a volume number since it's from the Terra Trade #1 but it's the Supergirl 12 that came out in 2007.
I follow Lian Harper, Thaddeus Thawne, Roy Harper, Dinah Drake Lance, and Axel Walker through every comic the little punks been in. I also have almost a complete Damian Wayne collection XD.
I'm definitly mainly into DC. I love Marvel's movies but can't seem to get into thier comics. I LOVE Irredeemable and Incorruptible from BOOM! studios though (They're actually the comics I look forward to the most every week)- they're our big non-DC thing, them and Green Hornet's new series. The first issue was awesome.

Ha ha! Gots to love the copy/paste function! LOL! XD
I'll have to look that trade up. I was thinking of posing the question on flash_rogues as I'm sure one of those girls would surely know!
Daimian Wayne He's such a brat! LOL! (Not that that is a bad thing
) From your list, it would seem you dig the spunky sarcastic personalities most?
As for Marvel verses DC, I tend to ride the fence as I am characters fan over a universe fan. Each has their plus and minuses. Have you ever checked out The Ultimates (only Volume 1 and 2 before Loeb totally ruined it! That was a great series, and Bryan Hitch's art! OMG! Loves it! XD) I know what you mean by independents becoming fast faves. Unwritten and air are one of my drool worthy stories going now. I think I like the fact that it's self contained best and that I don't have to search all over the place to get the whole story... I can't STAND cross overs! *groan* They totally ended my X-men fancy as a child. Boo!

I want the trade to Unwritten once it comes out. I was ogling the ad in the Previews book. It sooo caught my attention.
Lia knows all things Rogue
I do quite like little spunky annoying things. XD
We RP a LOT - and the characters we RP tend to affect what it is we pick up. The only Marvel character to make it in in his comic form is Daredevil. I love me some Matt Murdock - to the point that I have a poster on my door and talk/smootch it every time I go out of the room. Of course we ship Harvey Dent/Matt Murdock - thus leading to the lawyer lovefest obsession.
Gyah - the Indy's are eating my mind. The thoery in Incorruptible and Irredeemable isn't -that- revolutionary but somehow it just works SO WELL.

Unwritten is an awesome tale! do get and read! XD Then we can chatter about it! LOL!
Yes! I loves my girl Lia! She made me a Top/Glider fan girl!
Have you read her AU stories with them? She's a fantastic writer!
LOL! lawyer lovefest! XD Too damn cute! Matt Murdock is damn cool for sure
I like the art in a lot of his books. Very gritty like Punisher.
I've heard a lot of good things about Irredeemable, and want to check it out at some point. I've never heard about the other.
P.S. I'm totally loving chatting back and forth with you! XD

Incorruptible just started coming out, it's the flip side of the Irredeemable tale told through the eyes of an arch!villain who's becoming the ultimate hero in response to what's going on in Irredeemable.

Oh coolly! I love villain eye view stories! XD The Loki trade is one of my all time fave stories told from Loki's point of view
(It helps that I'm a total Loki fangirl! LOL! XD) I made a comic based off this trade (2 issues of 44 pages! 0o) Of course it's only the story board thus far. If you're interested in taking a peak, I posted it in my LJ here:

Villain's stuff is definiatly some of my favorite stories. I'm always rooting for the villains.
We didn't post any of the old Manga stuff up online but if you wanted to look at a bit of it I could scan a couple pages and share but they're all from 3-4 years ago.
The comic I don't have much for yet, we've been resisting working on it until the office is finished. (wait wait wait)
I normally don't put any of our original stuff online -simply because we're so secretive about it .

Ditto! Villains are the best when their motives are caught in a good light to humanize them
I'd love if you would share! Thanks!
I know what you mean by the waiting game. I'm holding off doing my comic off the story boards for when I get through the Kubert school, so when I do it, it'll be worth the time and effort it'll take to complete it in the skills department (I hope!)
If you would rather, you could email them to me to keep it secret?

The whole villanous redemption thing is one of my greatest driving forces in writing, in RP, and in art. (As Jason Todd keeps giong in the HERO slot in my pics thankyouverymuch.)
I'll scan up some samples over the weekend when I've got a bit of time. I haven't got any of it scanned - I'd love to show you the more modern stuff but it's all packed up in the shed until May - my entire life is in chaos with this 'year-long renovation'. Look for a file on Monday - note me your e-mail and it'll be waiting for you
We're trying to tighten up the coloring, the face shapes, overall anatomy, and define our comfortable strengths and weaknesses before we actually attempt something serious. It's taking a bit of time but I'm pretty sure it'll be worth it in the end.
(and from Carla) Gyah, I'm still jealous that you're getting to go through Kubert school. I should have gone, didn't know about it though, and the parents weren't supportive of going out of state (Blyss's were but she went the Music Ed route up in Michigan.) I went the Pharmacy route at Toledo U and abandoned it before five months was up. Blyss kept telling me I belonged in art not pharm - my love of chemistry or no.

Yes! Cheers to you! I feel exactly the same way! XD Speaking of, are you a Lost fan? Just saw the latest episode, and it played the villain redemption card beautifully!
Awesomesauce! I'll be looking forward to those scans!
Time is all we have, and if you guys feel like you've not got all the quirks out of your combined efforts to go serious, I can understand the wait. (Hence why I'm waiting to do my storyboard for real as well You don't want to half ass it, and that is commendable
I'm sure when you guys go to it for the win, it's going to be remarkable!
What is stopping you from taking the Kubert classes now? Your stuff is way more than qualified! It's never too late to go back to school! When I do start classes (after I finish my current course at art instruction schools) I swear to scan and email those lessons your way!

I can't say I've ever caught a single episode of Lost. While I'm a fan of some TV shows I don't actually watch much TV. I catch up on some stuff through Hulu and while I know they've got LOST, I've got something like 49 shows sitting in my queue that I know I'll never get to despite how much they interest me. I get maybe one epi every couple of days.
The Kubert school is a three year program. I support my family, have a house, and a full time job. Plus, it's in New Jersey, which is a little far away from Ohio. I've thought about doing some of the correspondence courses but at $300+ a pop I'd probably do only one (or $125 w/o the crit - but the crit is the important part.) So money, time, family - plus if anyone was going back to college I'd send Blyss. She was managing a higher then a 4.0 in her courses, was top in her classes, and had so much she actually wanted to study that she gave up. But while she was willing to pay $27,000+ for a Music Ed degree when she switched over to English as her focus she couldn't see paying the larger sum. She does take some online courses when we can squeeze them into the budget but most of our free cash goes to art supplies and domesticity. (er... and comics XD)The tuition is $13,000+ a year and while I'm sure it's worth it. If I had the money I'd be investing it in a larger house... Or buy my girl the laptop she could really use.
Mmmm or hoard art supplies like a dragon for when I didn't have funds.

I rarely watch TV these days, but I still like it! (I just like a lot of other stuff a lot more ) I know what you mean by getting to shows you wish you had the time to watch
I used to watch a lot of TV, these days I watch Lost and when Venture Bros comes back on, I plan to watch that... other than that? I may catch a movie on the weekend twice a month
I feel you, I'm planning on taking the correspondence courses myself (living in Florida) Plus, I need to keep my job to afford classes. I hate my job, but it makes decent money :/ The art instruction school is a 2 year (27 lesson) course, with the ability to finish in a year and a half (which I plan if they stop with holding lessons *growl* That school really tees me off! :/ They say, go at your own pace, but then tell you to slow down? If you are getting an A on every assignment, why the need to slow down? *eye roll* I found out why... money. Since I get automatic payments of $130 a month taken out, they want to be sure that I'm not going to stiff them. This was proven through a phone convo I posted about in my LJ ... I won't reiterate as it's not worth the breath, but I'll stick out the school just to get the know how I can learn before going on to specialize at Kubert
But anyway... before I went off on a tangent! Once I get the course books, I will share with you two (even without critique, I'm sure you'll get something out of them
Oh! My anatomy book arrived in the mail today! *squee!* XD

That sounds great!
How are you liking the book? I find the way he writes rather mesmerizing. And I think, that he pulls all the poses from his head on huge life-size pics amazing.
Which art school are you attending currently? I've never understood the slow down mentality. I suppose it's supposed to let you grasp the details (repetition repetition repetition) but a lot of time it's because of a set curriculum.
On Hulu I watch Bones, House, Wire in the Blood (an amazing series, 4 episodes a season from Britain based on some books I've fallen in love with. The main character is awesome.) Modern Family and community (because lulz are important). Most of the shows I love are over and done with but I rewatch old epis a lot. I'm waiting for Supernatural and Smallville's boxsets for the current seasons. The channel they're on doesn't tune in in the our bedroom..

I haven't had a chance to read it yet (I'm in the middle of reading a book on perspective at the moment
I'm looking forward to it though for sure!
This was my rant about the whole art school deally and why they had me slow down:
[link]
Oh Bones is a fun show! I've seen Supernatural and Smallville. Supernatural I watched the first 2 seasons, and want to watch more. Smallville I liked, but by the time Louis entered the scene, I was getting bored. I stopped watching, but from snippets I see, the show looks like it's gotten better and I may have to take up watching it again. I've heard good things about House, but haven't had the chance to check it out. The others I sadly haven't heard about :/
π: 0 β©: 1
afangirlsdream In reply to imtherealjenna [2010-03-13 08:49:14 +0000 UTC]
Wire in the Blood isn't for everyone. It's very slow (so are the books) but the main character is an incredible study for me. I'm not fully sure why but the way he talks and acts, his issues and development just captivate me. This is the show index page [link] I liked the first and second season best. there are six seasons. I think the casting change they made in season hurt the show, but I still enjoy it.
The art school rant makes me cringe. It's one of the issues with correspondence - having to wait. The classes I've taken are all internet based - while my writing class was months long the lessons updated so fast it was harder to keep up with them then to get ahead of them.
BTW - have you ever participated in script frenzy? I know you've got comic-thoughts bouncing around in your skull. More and more people are using it for comic-scripts.
π: 0 β©: 1
imtherealjenna In reply to afangirlsdream [2010-03-14 07:31:37 +0000 UTC]
I tried to check your link out, but Hulu said the page was gone Boo!
Yeah, the rant was enough to make me stop working on their stuff for the entirety of the summer (to let my 'payments' catch up to their suggested time line *eye roll* I'm very unmotivated to do their stuff now *sigh* That single conversation with them told me all what they really cared about and were concerned with, and I've yet to be able to really pull myself up to put forth as much effort as I had when I started the classes.)
Script Frenzy? no, but do tell! I'd love to play with it! XD
π: 0 β©: 1
afangirlsdream In reply to imtherealjenna [2010-03-14 08:48:40 +0000 UTC]
Hmmm maybe because I was signed in. Hulu is weird but on their front page, in the search, just type in 'Wire in the Blood' and it should take you to their show page. Here's the IMDB page on it: [link] .
Hunh - what sort of class work did they have you doing? If it's pretty standard there are good ways to get basic prompts and assignments for art-a-day online. If it's the crits you're after, and the direction I'm no pro but I'm more then willing to give you extended con-crit on your pieces (especially if you returned the favor). If you want a more expert opinion on it I can also chat up my mother-in-unlaw XD. Blyss's mom has a Masters in Fine Arts and used to teach it. She's pretty good on the crits . She's not an online person, modern computers confuse her but Blyss sees her once a week and gets our stuff looked over by her.
Script Frenzy is the sister site to nanowrimo - [link] . It goes on in April which is easier for me then nano in Nov. Thanksgiving, the Christmas rush, and the general stress of the holidays normally makes Nano a kind of a headache so this is the first year I'm doing script frenzy. It's 100 pages of script in a month.

I always appreciate con-crit I will do the same for you, although I'm quite amazed with the work I've seen you put out and will find it hard to find any issues that need addressing
That's awesome that her mom can help you guys like that
Art a day? That sounds intriguing. Most times I'm just doing commissions for friends or art trades, but different stuff is always a plus to becoming a better artist.
Wow! That's impressive! 0o I don't think I'd come close to being able to pump out 100 pages in a month unless I was co-writing with someone! But that is damn cool

Just toss me a shout on the pieces you want concrit on and I'll do my best and pass it on to Blyss's mom. You flatter <3 however, since we're attempting to hit professional quality there's always something that can be improved.
There are a bunch of sites like this: [link] that do doodle-prompts to get you flowing. There's also the 10/25/50/100 theme art/fic challenges that are fun. There's a few running around dA: [link] . Blyss likes taking a different piece of line art and coloring it every day (there are hundreds of files on her comp of pure color work - some of it breathtaking, some silly, most unfinished since the goal isn't to complete the piece just to improve) she also keeps tabs on sites that offer lineart for it. We're tutorial-whores for expanding our knowledge it's always interesting to see how other people come at their art. You've seen how I'm tackling improvement. The gesture drawings are really helping.
Are you wanting to be a traditional comic artist? The whole pencils/inks/colors thing? Which aspect are you wanting to focus on? Or are you attempting a jack-of-all trades?
XD I've got little worry on hitting the one hundred pages - it's the formatting that's gonna kick my booty .

imtherealjenna In reply to afangirlsdream [2010-03-14 19:51:04 +0000 UTC]
I appreciate the offer, and of course extend the same to you Yes, there is always something that can be improved in any work, I will scour! LOL!
I bookmarked that doodle a day place, that sounds like a good exercise to use.
During the summer, I entered an art challenge called Artslam where the goal was to pick easy, medium, or hard (30, 60, or 90 days) and produce a piece of art every day (didn't have to be more than a sketch) But you did have to pick a theme like people (comic characters) Architecture, landscapes etc It helped me more than the art school I'm in I think! LOL! Pushing myself to create like that was very good for me
I'm a tutorial whore as well! It always feels great to learn more about what you love
As for what I want to do? I like doing it all since I'm a completist! LOL! But I'd be fine with just the pencils and inks as I really suck at making color choices I am trying though! XD
I have high hopes for you and your script my sweet!

That's awesome babe! I've got high hopes for you too!
If you ever just want pencils to practice on or inks to toy with colors you're more then welcome to any of ours. There's a lot more pro sites offering them out there but I do scan in and preserve most things in all three pencils/inks/colors - they're huge files but I like having backups.
I think you've got a good direction in your colors!

imtherealjenna In reply to afangirlsdream [2010-03-16 12:13:05 +0000 UTC]
Aw! *beams* Thanks for the encouragement! I like to think I'm getting better as I go, as I see art as a developed skill over a talent (although motivation and love go a long way to improvement!)
I, like you, usually save B&W before colors. Some I save pencils first, but a lot of the time, I do my improvements in the inks, so I just wait until I ink before making a scan (unless I feel particularly pleased with a piece and am afraid of messing it up! I just started learning ink about 8 months ago, so I am not as steady handed as I'd like to be at times)

afangirlsdream In reply to imtherealjenna [2010-03-16 21:17:54 +0000 UTC]
We add quite a bit of the detailing in with the inks so I can totally understand that. Blyss has tried her hand at inking a couple times and made faces at the shakiness of her work - though I'm jealous of her ability to get tiny lines. She's got a light hand, I'm still struggling on the really fine stuff, myself. motivatemotivatemotivate
