Description [link]
He is mine now! Thanks so much to Greatalmightyqueen who let me adopt this little guy. He will have an awesome stud career here at my Wayward Stud.

*Cat Quick didn't have quite the explosive career debut you might have expected from a colt with his pedigree. He was a gangly thing at the Fasig Tipton 2 year old sale. Our farm had a passing interest in the colt but not enough to buy him. It was not that he was badly conformed, just compared to his more mature peers he tended to blend into the scenery. An obscure beep on our radar screen. He was bought for an average $25,000 by a private syndicate and sent to an elite trainer.
His training went off without a hitch but with his slow development his debut was set back into October. Cat Quick was an unusual colt, he wasn't too fond of running as a two year old and was one of the finickiest eaters on the backside. He also played a "fun" game with the grooms in which he would thrust his head into the aisle and deliberately knock heavy loads out of their arms. After which he would hide in the back of his stall and when confronted by said groom he would just act as innocent as ever, rubbing his head against their chest.
Cat Quick failed to break his maiden in two starts as a two year old. His trainer, frustrated with him, sent him to Palm Meadows Training Center over the winter to allow his body and mind to grow a bit more. The warm weather and palm trees seemed to do the trick for the dark bay colt and he gladly began to turn in bullet works. Meanwhile colts such as Cordax, Fantasma, Poltergeist and Faster were already well on their way in the racing world. Eager to get his colt into the fray he entered Cat Quick into his third maiden race at Gulfstream.
With the salty sea air at his heels he burst away from the others to win by 5 lengths. Skipping the allowances he was entered into the Holy Bull Stakes. He flopped like a deer fawn on ice in January. With icy slow fractions set by the only speed horse in the field Cat Quick could only manage to close the gap by 3 1/2 lengths to finish 2 lengths behind the winner. His connections regrouped and sent him out as the co-favorite for the Fountain of Youth Stakes.
This time traffic trouble and lack of conditioning did the colt in and he wound up finishing a lackluster 5th in a field of 7. With graded earnings becoming a big problem for the Afleet Alex colt he was shipped to Sunland Park for the Gr III Sunland Derby. He was a sight to be seen at the New Mexico track and was training wonderfully up to the race. His trainer was confident that the race was already in the bag. He couldn't be more wrong.
Cat Quick was rushed to the front by his new jockey, as his old jockey couldn't make the race. Being so close to blistering fractions Cat Quick wilted with two furlongs to go. He gallantly fought on however and finished an improved 3rd in the 10 horse field.
Now the colt was 32nd on the graded earnings list with no chance of making the Derby. Rather than push the growing colt they decided to rest him and point toward the Derby Trail instead and if that worked out, The Preakness. Quiet days at McMahon Training Center in Kentucky soothed the sour colt and by the last Saturday in April he was ready.
Going to the post the colt was as calm as a clam. While he warmed up his connections sat stony faced and wrung their hats in anticipation. This one race could make or break the colt and his career.
With his old jock back on his back the colt broke perfectly and settled near the middle of the pack. It wasn't long before they turned into the homestretch and Cat Quick had a narrow lead. He lengthened it within a couple strides and he won going away.
Critics diminished his win however by pointing out the track bias and lack of formidable competition. Despite their naggings in their head he was entered in the Preakness three weeks later. *
