Description My head.... I thought as my mind drifted between the realm of reality and fantasy. Hand going directly to my raw and pounding temples, I cracked open my eyes to peer into the murky shadows. What had happened? I pulled the hand back to see dried blood marking my fingers with it's triumphant flag. I groaned as the excruciating pain coursed through my body in crushing waves. I felt as if I had been trampled by an overprotective saber-tooth moose lion mother. I wanted to push myself up, but my limbs would not cooperate with my brain. Instead, I let my eyes wander around the room I was in, trying to figure out where I was.
Squinting heavily, I could make out the oblong shapes of prison bars, neatly and tightly spaced for extra strength. I could see very little outside of the cell I was in, and nothing else was inside it save for me. Feeling my heart hammering against my chest, I closed my eyes and took a couple of deep, soothing breaths. Feeling my head start to clear, it suddenly hit me, and I remembered what had happened. Equalists, I thought. I had to get out of here.
Using the minute amount of power I had left, I was able to get myself upright and off of the floor. I almost gagged on some sour bile that shot itself up my throat for sitting up too fast. Swallowing the atrocious mix of saliva and acid, I attempted to fully right myself. A cruel yank on my leg caused me to yelp. Peering down, I realized that one of my legs was chained to the floor. Shit, I thought, prying on the substantial chain that prevented my flight. There was no way I could get out of this shackle, it was too thick for me to break. If only I was a metal bender, I thought.
An earsplitting screech of metal from outside my cell made me promptly snap my head up. I sheltered my eyes as a stream of intense light fell on me, making my headache return with retaliation. Footsteps alerted me to the presence of two people. Both walked in unity, almost as if they were one person instead of separate entities. They were coming towards my cell with a purpose.
"Well, looks like the princess is awake." one of them said, their eyes glowing a fearsome green just as the night before. "Sure did take her a long time to come 'round, wonder if we roughed her up too much?" the Equalist said with frosty laugh.
"Doubt it," the other said dryly. "I'm starting to get a bruise where she smacked me into the damn wall!"
"Stop your complaining," the first sneered. A jingling and a click resounded, then the door to my cell swung open. They started towards me, one of them holding a ring of keys in his right hand. Flipping through them, he located the correct one and bent down to unlock my leg. Perfect, I thought, once they let me go, all I had to do was, OWWW!!!!
A scorching jolt penetrated my upper back. The other Equalist had paralyzed my lower body with a swift jab. I scowled as the other one finally unlocked me, afterwards helping my wilted and useless body onto the back of the other man.
"Let's go." he said, shouldering my weight with a grunt.
"Where are you taking me? I demand to know!" I hissed, trying to dislodge myself from him.
"Shut up!" the other one barked as we began our way down a lengthy, dark corridor. "You have no rights, you little rat!"
"If my legs weren't lifeless right now I'd sock you in the balls!" I growled. I tried in vain to move, which only made both of them cackle hysterically.
"Perhaps we should have knocked her out instead." one of them joked cruelly.
Sweeping through multiple corridors and hallways, we finally arrived in front of a small, rather non-descript door.
"Blindfold her," the first one said.
"What?! You wouldn't dar...." they had already manhandled a rough piece of cloth over my eyes. When I felt another one being thrust into my mouth I tried to bite them, only failing by a few mere millimeters.
"For good measure." I heard one of them say as he finished tying the knot around my mouth.
"Yeah, I'm sick of hearing her babble." the other one complained.
Completely blind and mute, they carried me through the threshold, and into the room beyond. I couldn't get my bearings as they weaved their way through a couple more doors and passageways, and even a couple flights of stairs. When we finally arrived at our destination I was roughly dropped, and then fixed, to an icy metal chair. After I was secured and my gag was removed, I heard the sound of them leaving, and it made panic leap into my mouth. Where was I? What were they going to do to me?
"Come back here you cowards!" I yelled after them. "Let me see your pitiful faces before I pummel them senseless!" They ignored my fervent threats as the door slammed closed.
Out of the blue, I began to have horrible flashbacks to when I first came to Republic city, and was jumped by a group of three men. They had blindfolded and gagged me as I had been just now, and almost got to tying me up before I got free. I scarcely escaped with my life thanks to a benevolent citizen who allowed himself to be beat up in my stead. I never got the chance to thank that man for saving me, I wondered if it was already too late. I tried to quell the steady rise of shear fright welling up in my chest. This wasn't a time to freak out!
Suddenly I heard the sound of two male voices approaching. I couldn't help but realize that one of the voices was vaguely recognizable, but I try as I might, I couldn't pin down exactly where I had heard it before. The door to the room opened, and the noise of four pairs of feet entered.
"This is the traitor," I heard the familiar voice say. "An inside source told me she had a little look around our files last night."
"Bender?" I heard a deep, resonant voice question the first.
"No sir." the voice answered back.
"Interesting," the second voice replied, the sound of his footsteps almost inaudible as he came towards me. I felt the silent brush of air against my cheek as he circled around me, as if he was eyeing up his prey before he sank his teeth into it. Muscling up some nerve, I puffed out my chest and spoke in the most intimidating voice I could.
"You would be wise to let me go." I informed boldly to my invisible audience.
"You better be quiet or I'll..!" I heard the familiar voice start to threaten, but instead of finishing his threat, he stopped midsentence.
"Really?" inquired the second voice, his words oozing with a cool breeze of poise. "And why should we consider such an audacious request from a branded incendiary?"
"You'll regret it if you don't!" I growled, struggling with my bonds.
"You didn't answer his question!" the first voice lashed back. "You better give a straight answer soon or you'll regret it!"
"Lieutenant," I heard the second voice address the first voice. "I would like a moment alone with our," he stopped and I could feel his eyes rest on me for a moment. "defector."
"Are you sure?" the Lieutenant asked.
"You are dismissed Lieutenant." he coolly instructed.
"As you wish sir." he replied. Soon the sounds of three pairs of feet left, leaving just me and the unknown second voice.
"I apologize my fellow sister for the treatment you have received." the voice began. I frowned suspiciously. I had difficult time discerning if he was being sincere, as whoever he was, he had a miraculous way of hiding his true being. "My followers still have much to learn about dealing with hostages of our kind."
"Who are you?" I inquired. "Let me see you!"
"Surely," he replied. I felt his fingers undo the knot at the back of my head, and soon the cloth dropped to my lap. I shook my head and rapidly blinked my eyes in the darkened room, trying to correct my impaired vision. When I finally looked up, I was staring firmly into the eyes of the man I now feared, Amon.
