Description
First broodmare pic is done! I have lots more to complete.* When asked about his famed purchase of the 2017 Broodmare of the Year all Mr. Blake Meadows can do is smile. Back in 2005, a dark bay filly by the name of Independence was foaled at the neighboring farm of Greenbrook. She was a gorgeous A.P. Indy filly out of the Tiznow mare Ms. Tiz Fizz.
Her career got off on the right foot as a two-year old, winning her maiden at Keeneland by three lengths. After that race she was purchased by the famed Wayward Stud, and soon shipped to Saratoga to compete in the rich two-year old stakes that make Thoroughbreds all over the country flock to the Spa. Still quite immature, Indy was placed into an allowance race at 7 furlongs. There she would compete with the fresh talent in the form of a Quiet American filly named Rowdy Texan.
When the gates opened, Rowdy Texan shot immediately to the front in her customary style. But unlike her last race she was not alone on the front end. The longshot in the race forced Rowdy Texan in setting blistering fractions, setting the race up perfectly for Indy. By the quarter pole she was long gone and by the sixteenth pole she had already begun to be pulled up by her jockey. She won by five lengths on the wire.
Two weeks later however , Indy began to act strangely. She favored all her legs, shifting her weight constantly from foot to foot. Her appetite dipped and soon she became very moody and irritable, very unlike her usual playful self. It became apparent after many blood tests and a close inspection for tick bites that she had somehow contracted Lyme's disease. Treatment was started and soon she began to return back to normal.
After her battle with Lyme's disease she was returned to the track to prepare for her three year old debut. Lackluster workouts provided continued frustration to her trainer. Things turned worse after her three year old debut at Calder. Finishing sixth in a field of eight didn't help alleviate her connection's maddening disappointment in the filly. She was placed into a two claiming races, both of which she wasn't claimed, before she was finally retired.
When Mr. Blake Meadows saw the filly at auction, he was instantly drawn to her. Her poor race record belied her breeding in many other buyer's eyes at the auction. He remembers getting her for a steal which still makes him giddy to this day. From then on out for the mare, it was all prestige and accreditation. She is now the dam of champions such as Mr. Constitutional who won many handicap races of a 1 1/4 miles and longer, Seattle Star, winner of the Preakness and Haskell Stakes, and Fourth of July, winner of the Santa Anita Derby.*

Description: A very bossy lead mare of her herd, she doesn't allow any other horse tell her what to do. She loves people to death and is fiercely protective of her foals. Indy is a very dominant mare, even in the breeding shed. Even her genes are dominant, all her foals so far are dark bay with little to no markings.
