i know, i know... so expected but i honestly did think i did a good job of making this photo work when it was so screwed up when it came straight out of the camera... the top left corner was completely over-exposed from the sky/sun.
you can still kind of see a hint of it next to the top left corner of the leaf.

This is simply stunning! If you're not happy with this photo, can I please have some of the stuff you're smoking because it must be awesome ^_^

if i was smoking anything, i would indeed share it
but the main part i don't like about it is next to the top left of the leaf. the entire left corner was white-out and over-exposed. so i tried to compensate for that, as you can see. but you can still tell that the part still visible was originally over-exposed :/
or, at least, i can. >_<

Now that you point it out, I can see where it was over-exposed. But that was after telling me what to look for. When you said you didn't like it, I look all over and couldn't see why
I think we tend to be harder on our work than others

Hmm...
Perhaps you could crop it into a square and rotate it?
I like how the droplets are accentuated further from the black and white contrast. The lighting and depth of field aren't too bad, either...
I can understand why you don't like it, though.

although you know i love squares almost as much as you do, i don't think this photo would look good as one. it would look like i cut off the leaf's "limbs" if i did that... don't you think
i dunno... what way do you think i should rotate it? i did try it in all the different combinations, which i usually don't always do. it was originally one rotation CCW from what it is right now.

Ah, I can understand your reasoning there...
Rotate it counter clockwise, perhaps?
O.o

Interesting... it still feels as if there's something missing, though... that might just be me. o.O

ah, you and your "mediocre this" and "crappy that" when referring to your work... you're just a restless perfectionist I tells ya...
still a wonderful job you did, love the detail and the contrasts between light and dark. maybe not one of your best, but still damn impressive.

If I may, what do you not like about it? I think it's a fantastic photo.

well, the background and stuff surrounding the leaf... it's distracting. maybe it's just the memory of what used to be there (i darkened the edges and background a shit ton to remove most of the distracting stuff). also, one of the corners was completely whited-out from over-exposure, had to clone and burn a lot :/
i rotated it earlier today dye to a suggestion from someone... but i think i still like it the other way i'll probably end up changing it back...

tis not impossible, sir! although... it's not as simple as is portrayed
on this particular photo, i had to do at least three different vignette filters... one of the corners was completely whited-out from the sun, you see. also used another filter to add "local contrast" and then a lot of dodging and burning. not to mention some cloning as well... altogether, probably spent the better part of an hour and a half JUST editing this. but i think it was worth it, personally. when i started, i thought the photo was very poor. but the finished result i see as a little over mediocre...
