Description The Piece
Behold, my fail take on a Kirin, or Qilin, though it is geared to appear as more of a horse than the more traditional style... This was done for a coloring contest on Howrse.

I think my favorite things to do on the entire thing were the horns and the lichen.... The latter of which I found absolutely NO tutorials to use... So I ended up Googling a few pictures of lichen, and I figured out my own technique. I rather like it...

After studying some of Rochelle's ( ) LiveStreams, which I do suggest you watch, I kind of changed my normal way of coloring. I think this is an improvement... Her tutorials were also a wonderful help.

I am aware it was horrid, but my older style of coloring can be seen in my other gallery here: [link]

More Information:
In Japan, the Qilin is called Kirin (i.e. 麒麟 in Kanji).

The Qilin (Chinese: 麒麟, alternatively 騏驎; pinyin: qílín; Wade–Giles: ch'i-lin) is a mythical hooved Chinese chimerical creature known throughout various East Asian cultures, and is said to appear with the imminent arrival or passing of a wise sage or an illustrious ruler.[1] It is a good omen that brings rui (Chinese: 瑞; pinyin: ruì; roughly translated as "serenity" or "prosperity"). It is often depicted with what looks like fire all over its body. It is sometimes misleadingly called the "Chinese unicorn" due to conflation with the unicorn by Westerners.

I tried to do digital equine art and it was a complete and total fail, to say the least. xD
I'm alright if I don't do horses, though. It's just something about the anatomy... and the hair. The hair is a disaster. lol

Do you plan on doing any more digital artwork in the future like this? You're incredible at it, and it would be a pleasure to see more.

Though, Rochelle did do wonders with giving me some tips and tricks along the way, I might add.

Oh, believe me, I fully intend to! The key is finding time though... This took me quite a while, granted a large portion of the time was experimenting. I actually restarted it twice. XD

O_o! I love this! I like how you made it more natural colors, and I love the scale texture you added to the shoulders and body.
Very nice.
