Description

As spring lurches into summer, many of the various early flowers that put in a big effort after the drought have turned into seed heads. We apparently had the highest pollen levels in 20 years. My sinuses concur. But they are pretty.

Does anyone know what these sorts of things are beyond 'seed heads'?

Blurred plant in the background might be an Echium plant. About plant in the main focus, I don't know. It looks like some sort of grass to me.

Thank you. It would help to say that these are all Cape Town indigenous  plants- essentially 'fynbos'!

I see. Problem is, I have no knowledge of fynbos flora, aside from single details of the picture.

That makes sense - it's very Southern African Cape specific. The Table Mountain range apparently has more floral species than the UK?

I love the concept of your group though.

Well, I only tapped into the plant taxonomy and I mostly can identify plants that grow in Central Europe. Then some characteristic plants from Mediterranean Zone and some of tropical plants that I have in my book.

You want to come to the Cape in spring. It could take you about a day to walk 100m in some parts. I'm no expert, but can see many different species in the course of a short walk, be that dune, open ground or mountain - and that can all be the same short walk!
