Description
You need a certain kind of weird mindset to enjoy Jiu Jitsu I feel. There will be times when you know you have no hope and that you are the one who is going to tap out, but still you're trying desperately to postpone the inevitable. This is extra especially true when you start gassing out. Your opponent doesn't seem to be that much more skilled than you, it may feel like it's less even, but somehow you keep having to use all your strength and energy to escape a disadvantage, only to be swept back to bottom position under their mount or some other bad position before you've had any kind of opportunity to catch your breath or recover, and then dig into those dwindling reserves to try and escape again.
You know that tank is running to empty. You know you need a different plan. You know you can't come up with one. You know what's going to happen. You keep struggling anyway, right up to the point where you tap and don't have enough left to even stand up after that.
You needΒ weird sort of head to enjoy that sort of thing and want to go back for more of it...
This is a 30 minute match with no breaks between falls. Pamela knows that Candi is more experienced and skilled, so she discretely asks Sandra if there is any advice to be given.
Sandra purses her lips for a moment in thought, then offers this...
"You're heavier than Candi. Every chance you get try and get some kind of top position, anything, and then put all of your weight onto her. Force to work against that while making yourself as heavy as you possibly can on her. She may run out of energy as you keep going.
Advice noted, the match begins. Very quickly it's a sweaty affair, and Candi is up three falls to nil in the first 15 minutes. But after that last fall, Pamela notices that Candi is struggling to gulp air into her lungs. The next fall is 5 minutes later, and this time it's Pamela who scores against an opponent with strength enough to resist about as effectively as the grappling dummy. Falls five and six go the same way and now it's a draw and there's still a couple of minutes left to go.
And now this.
I know what Candi's predicament feels like right now. Running on fumes, it's just a matter of time.
Candi at least manages to make it to the last seconds before she taps, so Pamela only wins this one today four falls to three.
