Description

Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower.
~ Albert Camus ~

Autumn is here! I love this time of year when nature is blazing with reds, yellows and oranges!

This picture is my entry for OC Art Exchange Project , organized by theSilverJackaL . I got IzzyShea as my pair and was really excited to see that she had listed her Tokota Dahlia as one of the characters she'd like to see drawn. I have wanted to draw these awesome bear-canines from the first time I saw the species and this project gave me a good reason to do that. Dahlia was a perfect model with her reddish brown fur that can stand out from colorful background.

I hope you like the result!

I used to be scared of watercolors because they seemed to do whatever they wanted. But then I just started to use them more and practice and now I love them. Not saying that I still master them, far from that, but watercolors have become my favorite media. Β

yea i have tried and i just cant seem to get them to work for me, not really sure what it is, but i can get a acrylic paining to look like it was a oil Β painting with how i blend and work the colores so i have been told lol.Β

Agaave In reply to horselady36501 [2014-11-15 07:30:03 +0000 UTC]

Watercolors are tricky, they mostly do what they want to do and only thing you can do is to try guide them to right direction.
And even then they might dry in the middle of the painting process and leave weird edges and blobs behind.

The best tip I can give is to try to keep the colors wet while you paint. If they dry too early, they just give striped look. So be quick and let the colors work for you!
(Of course this depends on the effect you like to achieve; but in most cases keeping the colors wet works.)

This is so lovely. I love the environment the creature is romping around in - it looks so peaceful and like I WANT TO GO THERE NOW. And the critter itself looks fantastic - I love how you did the nose and eye. And of course THE FUR. So beautiful, I just want to pet it and run my fingers through it forever.

Yay, thanks a lot!
I adore autumn colors; this year we have got pretty nice fall foliage here where I live - so inspiring! Too bad they're gone so quickly but maybe I can make a memory of those colors lasting longer by drawing them.

And what comes to critter, I might have to draw more of these fluffy beasts, now that I gave my little finger to them, they might wanna bite my whole hand...

HOW DO YOU DO THIS WIZARDRY TRADITIONALLY??? Omg I'm in such awe. Ugh I absolutely LOVE those colors!Β  Especially those oranges and reds and greens in the foreground! It feeds my rabid love of fall which is in FULL swing right now let me tell YOU.Β  I also really love those green and blue mountains in the back!Β  And those teeny little pines! Ahhh!

AND I LOVE THE CHARACTER!! Omg I'm totally into that species too.Β  And omg that FUR!!!Β  I particularly love that pretty neck mane and the fur running down her head and neck ahhh. She fits right in with all that autumnal splendor! Amazing job! !

I am glad to hear that there is another one who loves autumn with passion! And of course happy to hear that you like my interpretation of it. Β  Β  Β

Fur is always so much fun to draw although I am not sure if it was a wise move from me to draw a Tokota because now I feel an urge to draw more of these adorable fluff monsters.
