Just don't physically mix the two on a drawing. The paper is supposed to form some of the middle tones. If you mix them, you get a big muddy mess and it turns into a pretty un-workable mess. My experiences with toned paper and white weren't that successful...

You have a good point here, at first I though about it, especially when I was just about to mix them, I knew this is "wrong", and definitively could go wrong
But them, I didn't care, sometimes, you just need to make a mess and see what will come out of that.
