That should be a changeable feature based on the difficulty setting,
Easy- "Your opponents run in fear of your nerdy onslaught"
Medium- "Your enemies are ready to do or die but you still have a fair chance to make it out alive"
Hard- "The combine and other assorted monstrosities are ready to make your life a living hell, suggested for those who are veterans to FPS."

I can only imagine how difficult (yet entertaining) the Hovercraft part would have been given these circumstances.
