As you should know by now, Batman will soon fall. In Batman, it's by the hands of Dr. Simon Hurt, a mysterious figure from Batman's past, and drugs; In Detective Comics, it will be by the hands of Hush, who was revealed in Jim Lee's Batman run to be a childhood friend of Bruce Wayne; In Robin, he's already missing, and Tim Drake may have to be the one to stop him; In Nightwing... well, they haven't even come out with the issue. But in Final Crisis, he has apparently been taken by the likes of Darkseid for experimentation on the Anti-Life Equation.Well, enough about comic book spoilers. This piece is done in conformity with Grant Morrison story line currently in Batman. It'll all make sense if you read the comics. Featured in the piece are the characters whom I know/think have/will play a major role in the events to come.

its interesting that you if i remember correctly don't really see the joker in battle for the cowl. i'd reccomend it to anyone though. great piece

Actually this is how Batman died, in Final Crisis #6, killed by Darkseid's Omega Beams. He was caught off guard, and he died breaking his greatest rule, but all for the good of all of mankind.
But then there's his death in Earth-22, the universe of Kingdom Come as featured in Justice Society of America #22, where he does indeed die of old age. Let's not forget the Batman of Superman & Batman: Generations, where he attains immortality through a challenge given to him by Ra's al Ghul.
Though, I guess that death is fitting for the Batman of Earth-12.

Well, to tell the truth, I didn't plan out the placement at all. If I did, I would have centered Jezebel Jet and/or Talia. I guess I just wanted to fill it up.
Then again, I got lazy and decided to close/shadow the eyes of a lot of the characters.
