The Cliffs of Moher were my first impression of Ireland, being the first location I set foot in off the bus from the airport. Granted, it was much colder and windswept than this picture portrays it when I visited in the chilly months of January, but the beauty was there nonetheless (heightened, perhaps, by the sheer power of it?), and set a high standard for all of the sights I encountered thereafter.

I can imagine that. I saw the cliffs on my third or fourth day in Ireland, my first ever impression of Ireland after the airport was the cloister ruins of Clonmacnoise. I loved that place too, so very Celtic!

I hope you get to visit Ireland soon. I hope to go back there some day, even if only in twenty years... there are so many places in the world I'd like to see at least once, and Ireland is a 'must see once more' place.

HOLD ON THERE.

That's not British landscape you're looking at. Ireland is NOT part of Britain! Careful!!

faeriegurl In reply to marymc [2008-02-28 00:38:56 +0000 UTC]

eh, the british isles?
Northern Ireland...?
Irish people are so much fun!

marymc In reply to faeriegurl [2008-02-28 11:17:23 +0000 UTC]

lol, thanks!

Northern Ireland is technically part of the United Kingdom, but Ireland is most certainly NOT a British Isle. We get very hot-headed when people say that. It's like saying Poland is part of Germany

faeriegurl In reply to marymc [2008-03-17 23:08:47 +0000 UTC]

okay... thanks for correcting my misconception. i get the same way when people say, 'oh, teaching. that's a 9-3 job and look at all the lovely summer holidays.' yeah right.
irish = not british isle. got it.

i'm a checkout chic at the supermarket to get me through uni, and when people ask what i'm doing they say stuff like that, and i just inwardly roll my eyes and say, yeah, but there's a lot more to it than that, and smile nicely. apparently it's not nice to correct customers.

Teachers do not get enough appreciation that's for sure!

I really like the perspective, although the grass in the foreground kind of takes away from the quality of the image...But I still love it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

AgiVega In reply to Relient-K [2006-07-21 16:45:44 +0000 UTC]

Ooops... sorry, just realised you wrote this on Moher, not Cashel Anyway, it wasn't possible to photograph the cliffs WITHOUT the grass, because there's a fence that you can't pass through and if you're standing behind the fence, it's inevitable that you have some grass in the pic.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Relient-K In reply to AgiVega [2006-07-21 18:11:01 +0000 UTC]

Well, that's annoying.....where's a string trimmer when you need one?

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

AgiVega In reply to Relient-K [2006-07-21 16:44:01 +0000 UTC]

Do you think the grass takes away from the quality? I think it adds to it: the building in itself would've been boring and grey, but some green makes it more lively

I hope you'll have more or less okay weather, though I doubt if there's going to be another whole week without rain like we had - we've been extremely lucky with the weather.
You've got to visit Cliffs of Moher, Cahir, Cashel, the Ring of Kerry, Kilkenny (the loveliest medium-sized town in all Ireland), the cloister of Clonmacnoise, the Burren and its famous dolmen, Bunratty castle near Limerick (Limerick itself isn't worth much attention), naturally Dublin (but don't waste more than one day on Dublin, there are loads of prettier places in Ireland!), the Powerscourt gardens near Dublin and Glendalough also near Dublin. Hope this helps in planning! And make sure you tell me if you too upload photos of Ireland on devart!

Either I took it or my mum did (we kept giving the camera to each other, so I don't even remember who took which picture). Naturally you could have seen photos like this before, if you type 'cliffs of moher' into 'google images', you'll see loads of photos of this place (though not many that are as pretty as this one )

Oh wait I remember now! My ex was going to send in a picture for that Cingular contest of five bars of something and found a picture of those cliffs but there were only four. Wow I bet you must have had a super wonderful time in Ireland. I'm in love with the place personally.

thank you for sharing this beautiful photos with us.
I'm not exactly from Ireland *a little by blood since one of my greatgrandfather's was Irish, and some cousins*
nevertheless I had always loved Ireland very deeply and wish to visit it and the cousins i have there.
by the way, there is a song about these particular cliffs, that I know and really like. Its called "The Rock"
and its was from a old show called "So weird"

seeing this photo brought me back good memories

I will have to wait for my friedn (to whom the camera i took them with belongs) to give me a CD with all the photos I took there. But I guess she'll soon give it to me.
