It did. This is his design when he was Orion Pax on the Cybertronian police force in the IDW comics.

First time this desing was used in the "Stormbringer" mini by Don Figueroa. Next in the "MtMtE" and "Autocracy". So that is IDW's official pre-war design for Optimus.
