Description
He had been through this process many times before - in fact, ever since that fateful 11th birthday party, Michael had been living a double-life. Much of the time he would spend as Michael, the affable young teen with a lot of energy and a love of all things archaeological. But whenever he wanted to get away from life, he would transform.Michael wasn't the bearer of some transformational gene. He didn't drink potions, nor cast spells. All he needed to do was decide to change, and it happened. For you see, at his 11th birthday party, his grandmother had pulled him aside and asked if there was one animal in the world he would be interested in experiencing life as. Despite his love of archaeology, which probably would have caused him to choose something like a Brontosaurus... or perhaps even a velociraptor, he chose a relatively mundane animal.
It just so happened that his choice was a dog. At the time, he had no idea that his grandmother was actually a witch, and that, thanks to her, his father could change into a tiger, and his mother into a gorilla. He went back into the party, and enjoyed himself, not knowing what his grandmother was doing in the next room.
That night, after the party, Michael had sat in front of the TV, and thought back to his grandmother's question. It was an odd question, and Michael found himself thinking about being a dog...
Sure enough, he started to change, right there on the couch. So deeply absorbed in thought was he that he didn't even notice the change occurring, until a commercial break, at which point he was already laying like a dog, tail wagging, with only his mop of hair and shorter snout to truly distinguish himself from a real dog.
And so, Michael, having become a strapping 19 year old man, decided to transform. He was on a break from his studies, and he had been checking out a rather fetching dalmation bitch down the street recently. What he didn't know, however, was that she was actually like him - someone able to transform, at will, into a dog. He was looking forward to a chance to push his knot into her, to be locked with her for a time... but it wouldn't be tonight - tonight was just a chance to meet her, to sniff her rear and playfully lick her snout.
It always followed a subtly different part. It made the transformation interesting every time. Sometimes he would grow a tail before any other changes began, sometimes his hair would grow in first, and other times he would have the general shape of a dog, but without the hair, with the hair coming in last. It seemed the process was to take an interesting turn - his muzzle was growing early, and his hands were changing before his ears could even start moving up his head.
He took a deep sniff, smelled a distant scent of meat... he thought it was pork, and he got a sense of a bone - always a plus - and he fell to all-fours, his body only at an early stage of transformation, but able to handle it. He let his tongue hang out of his mouth as he bounded down the stairs, past his parents (his mother was mid-transformation, herself), and out through the open door.
He was only half-transformed, still, but a car was driving along the street, and without even thinking about it, he bounded to the gate, barking loudly. Had the driver paid much attention, she would have been surprised by what she saw in Michael's yard... but Michael had learned years ago that nobody paid much attention to a barking dog at night.
Michael, who was now far enough along that he thought of himself as "Spot", felt a bowel movement, and loped over to his dung-corner. He released the steaming pile that had been gathering for hours, then sniffed the air again. He could smell the meat and bone again, but this time he also caught a whiff of something much more enticing - it was female, canine, and close enough that he could trace it back to its origin.
His oddly-shaped tail the only part of him still transforming, Spot, who looked exactly like a dog to the untrained eye, started making his way towards the source of the appealing smell - that cute bitch.

Suggests my Skip & Sis Waldo. They are, however, dogs mutated by a virus prior to birth and almost human in form. They are the first in the Canidian line.
The virus had created the ratone and ruvian peoples, but also isolated individuals such as Citronella Peterson (skunk to humanoid) (to give her a mate the virus genes were spliced into a baby skunk creating Rad Radcliffe.),the Cruise family (some genetic damage made 2 of the lepii kids mutants with powers), Reynard (a Vulpian) and his wife & kids.
I wonder why I am pratlling about characters I haven't used in ~16 years. Closer by far to the concept here is my Terry Belle, a witchling who got ahold of a Restricted spell and used it to become an anthro kangaroo ! Only each time she used it, it became easier to become Anthroo and harder & more painful to change back ! The school authorities took steps to obliviate the memory of the spell, but the damage had been done, and a day came when she had the first transformation due to anger & stress !
Will she someday become subsumed permanently into Anthroo ??
