Ladies and Gentlemen - Good Morning!One of the most frequently asked questions I receive lately is how I made the mask for my Stephanie Brown - Robin costume. To be able to provide a detailed and understandable answer to this question I prepared this tutorial! I hope you find it helpful.

This is really helpful! I've been trying to figure out how to do this for a while now. And this may be a dumb question, but... how do you make the mask stick to your face? Do you use spirit gum? No wait... that would definitely take off your eyebrows. So how does it stick?

I use a special skin glue called "Mastix" to attach it to my face.

Any ideas how I can make make a the headress/mask for Amora the Enchantress?? I've got the basic shape, and I'm going to use Worblas, but how do I get it to stay on without some ridiculous strap?

Oh, why don't you use a bit of Mastix skinglue? That's what I always use to keep my masks in shape as well! You only need a few drops of it. Press the headpiece to your forehead and it'll stay there.

Hi, erst einmal finde ich es total super das du ein solches Tutorial gemacht hast allerdings hätte ich da ein paar Fragen wegen dem Material. Du schreibst zwar das ein Haarföhn zum erhitzen ausreicht aber auf den Bild hast du eindeutig einen richtigen Heißluftföhn aus dem Baumarkt. Außerdem habe ich auf www.mycostumes.de (weil ich das Zeug ja auch irgendwo bestellen muss) gelesen das Worbla's Finest Art erst ab ca. 90 Grad zu bearbeiten ist und das ist ja wohl definitiv zu warm um es sich auf's Gesicht zu drücken außer man möchte danach wie ein etwas seltsam geratener Twoface aussehen. Dagegen soll KobraCast schon bei wesentlich geringeren Temperaturen zu bearbeiten sein allerdings ist dieses Material ja anscheinend auch sehr dünn und ich hätte Angst das es keine dichte Struktur ergibt. Da ich noch nie selber mit solchen Materialien gearbeitet habe würde es mich freuen wenn du mir einen Tipp geben könntest was besser geeignet ist.

Punkt 1: Ja, auf diesem Bild habe ich eine Heißluftpistole verwendet. Das lag allerdings auch mehr daran, dass ich gerade kein Bild zur Verfügung hatte, auf dem ich einen Fön verwende. Ich habe bereits 3 Masken gemacht und habe alle Masken mit einem normalen Haarfön erhitzt.
Punkt 2: Nein. Worbla's ist nicht erst ab 90°C zu bearbeiten. Du möchtest die Maske ja nicht komplett zu einem runden Ball kneten, sondern nur lediglich minimal um dein Gesicht herum verformen. Hierzu musst du das Material nicht weit erhitzen. Du kannst es aufs Gesicht legen, sobald es die Farbe nur leicht verändert hat und dabei ist es bei weitem keine 90°C heiß.
Kobracast hat kleine Löcher. Ich würde es zum Basteln von Masken nicht verwenden, es sei denn du möchtest es anschließend mit Leder oder Moosgummi überziehen.

A DIN-A4 sheet of Worbla's (you can make approx. 3-4 masks out of a sheet of this size depending on the shape and size of the mask) costs 5 pounds + shipping and handling.

It depends on how much skin-glue you use. But it doesn't come off easily at all.

When you take the mask off your face, does it ever pull at your eyebrows? It seems as though doing this often enough would leave you without brows eventually...

The plastic won't stick to your face. It only sticks to other surfaces made of plastic.

Thanks much. I think this may help with a mask I'm trying to make. The Green Lantern's Mask (Kyle Rayner version). Which may be a bit tricky since it seems to be a two part type of mask. Would you mind discussing it further?

Well, there are two parts to the mask. one layer that sits on the face and another layer that sits on top of the mask. To be honest, I've been looking around for materials and it seems to be a little outside of my budget. Which is why I've been looking around at various sites and I've found one that makes the mask. Sorry to have wasted your time. ^_^;;
