Description
A bird and some architecture. I've started this painting in November and then abandoned it for some time because the work didn't go smoothly. But luckily I've found energy to complete it. I guess, many artists struggle with this and sometimes leave their works unfinished.Reference by

It's amazing how the colours chime together in your artwork. The whole composition is just beautiful.

Thank you so much! I'm glad you like my work The color scheme here is deliberately devoid of anything bright.

I don't see anything wrong with it, it has a good sense of scale and great details. I take my time working on something simply because it forces you to slow down and see things differently and one does better work when they take their time. Great job!

Thank you very much! This work took so much time because of the nature of the medium. Watercolor forces you to be very cautious and mistakes are hard (sometimes impossible) to correct. Sometimes the work goes smooth, sometimes I stumble. Maybe I should follow your advice and try slow meditative approach because I just love how the paint flows.

You are welcome! I enjoy working in oil pastels simply because they are the least expensive materials I can use effectively. The old saying "A little goes a long way" applies here, I blend them with a brush dipped in turpenoid and that's the only extra medium I use with them. Watercolors, oil and acrylic paints/mediums are too expensive for me, it's like going and spending $5.00+ on a fishing lure and going to the lake to fish and losing the lure after two casts! Keep up the great work!

I understand that. When I was younger and money were scarce I drew on printing paper with a pencil. Many things have changed since that time. I work with different mediums and watercolor is one of my favorites now. Yes, it is expensive but that's not because of the paints itself. You can find raver cheep sets with less than 12 colors and they allow you to mix all of the other colors. But quality watercolor paper is really very expensive and having good paper is 50% of success. Bad paper can ruin everything and you end up disappointed. And you can also spend a fortune on some good brushes. I never tried oil pastels though, only soft pastels.
Thank you once again!

Yes, the watercolor materials I've purchased came from HobbyLobby. Paints were a select range of various colors of the Rembrandt brand, of which they were on clearance and discontinued them. As for the brushes, I have a handful of flats, rounds, and a liner all of which are their store brand which is fairly good. They have retained their shape well, no more than what I've used them. I used one of their 40% off coupon or either purchased them when they were on sale. I've done a few soft pastels before and I think I'm kinda allergic to the powder/dust they emit. So I don't do many of them. I think I can safely say that watercolors would be my second favorite. Many thanks for replying and have a great day!
Cheers!

It looks like you've made a good deal. I can't be frugal at the art supplies store. And I don't like pastels powder very much either. Watercolor is much cleaner and can be safely scanned. Maybe you should use it more often if you already bought it. There're many great tutorials online. Have a good day!

I really like this one. The colors are harmonious and there's a nice feeling of depth. Art is not always easy. I'd like to live and breathe art myself but my day job exhaust me a lot and it's hard to have that super flowy feeling when doing art tired. But even if it's sometimes a struggle, it's always worth it

Thank you so much for your comment! And I'm glad you like my work. I decided to use different shades of gray (blueish and yellowish ones) on purpose. They help to create moody feel.
I can really relate to your situation since I have a day job too. When you have to work 8 hours 5 days a week and need additional 2 hours a day to commute, there's so little time and energy left for your hobbies and personal projects. Yes, we have different obligations but somehow art helps us survive. Artists can only live to the fullest when they're making art.
