Pumbloom live in small colonies, disguising themselves as large fruits hanging from the branches of trees. When confronted by predators, a Pumbloom squirts a jet of highly acidic juice at its attackers face. A Pumbloom's petals allows it glide short distances on updrafts of wind. It uses this function to make it safely from tree to tree where it can find new places to roost.

On rare occasions, a Pumbloom can lose its footing or miss its chosen branch and fall to the ground. When an earthbound Pumbloom is confronted by trainers, it can often be mistaken for a Whismur.
