I am sure people are quick to jump to Superman as the victor..

But, THEN I remember how in the beginning, Doomsday was no different
from The Hulk when it came to ferocity, and sheer brute strength.

And, remember..Doomsday "KILLED" Superman (temporarily.)

The only way Superman can win is if he finishes this fast.

If the battle is prolonged, Hulk will eventually gain enough strength to actually
break through Superman's "invisible force field", and seriously harm him.

Thanks for your comment, I'm glad that you liked this scene! This was a work on-demand for an exposition, so I tried to represent both characters with the same possibilities, but I'm glad that the scene opened a nice debate for the fans.

Hate to break it to everyone voting Hulk, he lost in the comics against Superman, as did Thor.

Of course Superman is going to win.  Unfortunately, Superman may be unbeatable in a fair fight, and that lessens him as a character entirely.  I'd prefer if they were to give him scenarios where he is fighting for his life more often.

billnye69 In reply to TheLastMadman [2015-12-10 01:28:50 +0000 UTC]

Superman as a character represents hope, how can he represent hope if he isn't as powerful as he is? Also, there are plenty of scenarios where he has struggled, most of his villains are un-killable Gods & Entities.

TheLastMadman In reply to billnye69 [2015-12-10 04:55:11 +0000 UTC]

Not enough, in my opinion.  Of course, I'm a bit of a Superman hater in the eyes of most because I simply don't like the premise of his character, but I enjoyed Man of Steel (strangely enough.)  I feel that if he had a limit, Superman would be more able to appear in the Justice League as a member instead of as a god who merely commutes with mortals.  I know, I'm being ridiculous, but that's how I feel as a reader.

billnye69 In reply to TheLastMadman [2015-12-14 23:25:16 +0000 UTC]

I always attach myself to the God among mortal heroes. I like them because they have the power to create real change that won't be stopped by idiot talking heads and government B.S. lol

TheLastMadman In reply to billnye69 [2015-12-16 06:59:17 +0000 UTC]

I am more of a fan of vigilantes than superheroes in general, usually those that are willing to do things that the rest aren't, combining the power to not be bothered by idiot talking heads and governments with a temperance in their power, making them more relatable and making them teaming up with someone more plausible than godlike beings.  Characters like Red Hood, Constantine, Punisher, even Wolverine and Deathstroke strike me as better heroes than beings like Sentry.

I like my heroes implausible. Superman it is! I've got plausible heroes in Muhammad Ali (rest in peace, great Lion), Nelson Mandela, Ken Saro Wiwa, etc

a comic drawn by DC artists who weren't going to have their mary sue poster child lose to characters who don't need every power in the book to be powerful

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

billnye69 In reply to Garchompisbeast [2015-08-01 03:03:33 +0000 UTC]

You honestly think that Marvel didn't have any say in a DC comic that was going to have their characters in it, don't be a fool. Even Marvel knows their characters would lose to Superman.

You know what artists/writers have said when asked how strong is Superman.....answer..."As strong as he needs to be." Superman as a character is the representation of hope. Hope always wins. Get over it.

Garchompisbeast In reply to billnye69 [2015-08-01 09:42:31 +0000 UTC]

so basically they said 'he's always gonna win so fuck you'

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

billnye69 In reply to Garchompisbeast [2015-08-01 22:37:54 +0000 UTC]

Basically yes, they even wrote it into his backstory. From Dc Database....

"Superman has learned how to place mental inhibitors on his own power so that he doesn't accidentally "flex and cause the tectonic plates to shift." To him, they are the barriers that allow him to feel human enough to live a healthy life, and he only ever releases one of them when fighting a particularly powerful opponent or performing a difficult task."

It is unknown how powerful he will become if he ever releases them all. This is why they say he is as strong as he needs to be. Just the way they wrote the character.

Garchompisbeast In reply to billnye69 [2015-08-01 22:45:28 +0000 UTC]

and THAT is why i hate DC

they don't even come up with real reasons as to why their characters are powerful

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

billnye69 In reply to Garchompisbeast [2015-08-02 01:31:17 +0000 UTC]

You also have to remember that Superman was created in the 30s and is the original Super hero, seeing as he was the first, he got all the powers.

Silver age Superman was far more powerful then any other incarnation of the character. In the 50s, Silver Age Superman could basically juggle planets like tennis balls, he was so overpowered that writers complained that he was to hard to write reasonable scenarios for the character and asked to tone him down.

meh, I've never been much a fan of those two schmucks xD Both are too overrated, where Hulk is just REALLY simple (he is just a mountain of muscle with seemingly unlimited strenght) and Superman is...BORING...
