Description
A replica LeMat revolver I dressed up with some copper tubing, a pressure regulator thingy, and some holes. When using this, I crammed some glowsticks down the lower barrel so that cool arcane light would glow from the holes. This didn't work very well, so I'm thinking of coming up with some sort of LED lighting to put in there.
This replica is a non firing prop manufactured by Denix.
A real LeMat is a French made percussion cap revolver that holds 9 .41 caliber rounds in its cylinder, and a shotgun round in the large underbarrel. The shotgun round is fired by flipping the striker on the hammer down to hit the lower firing pin. Pretty nifty for Civil War era technology.

Aw man. LeMats are probably my favorite revolvers besides the nearly unknown Colt Patersen. Nice.

Very nice... I thought the glowstick idea was a good one. Too bad it didn't work. What happened there?

The larger sizes were too large to fit in the barrel, and the smaller ones that fit were not bright enough.

Find a flintlock revolver and BAM "steampunk" revolver, no modification necessary, and it would be so much cooler.

you could try putting the leds in bullet casings and making it so that they can shine into the tube gives it a little more variety and can also be a really cool additive piece like on a ammo belt having multiple colors you know. just a thought

Actually the LeMat is an American gun.... Even though the guy who made it had a French name and lived in New Orleans, it's still American. Sweet prop though!

It was also manufactured in Paris and London. Though, you are right, it was designed by Jean Alexandre LeMat of New Orleans, and originally produced by John Krider of Philadelphia. It was almost exclusively a Confederate weapon, if not completely exclusive, during the American Civil War. What bugs me most about this work, is the cartridges.. when it's a cap and ball revolver.

Yeah, it is. But the guy was living in New Orleans at the time, so idk. We could base it off his nationality or where it was invented. It's not very clear xD

Use a laser. You know the kind with the presure plate that hooks to the trigger. Put laster in the lower toob with a prism or something at the end to give off dif colors and reflect em down the tube. I say this so if you was to fire it right before it fires the toob will gif off a glow as if charging... Just random thought. Gun looks wicked btw.

I've fired the LeMat. Incredibly accurate for black-powder, and the 12/20-gauge shotgun shell is devastating at close range. Great work!

Thanks. I bought the LeMat from some western and civil war replicas website. The manufacturer is Denix. It should come up with a quick Google. If you make one, let me know when you post it. I'd like to see your version

i dont see how steam would help with a manual/mechanical reloading system. seems to me its already functional. without the steam. its a cool freakin design though.

Well, maybe it could blowback the system to make the revolver automatic, since they were not double action back then. I think I've come up with more BS to explain it after the fact, when, as you mentioned, I just wanted it to look cool. I'm glad you like it, despite it's nonsensical nature

its a long convo on how power armor and mechs serve differnet roles and how some items are better... eh. yeah it would take a while, im in the army. i work with mechanics and know a few engineers.

I see power armor as more of an infantry enhancement tool, whereas mecha would be a heavy weapons platform. Mecha is just less viable than existing heavy weapons systems, or we would have developed it already. Either way, robodog is terrifying.
Thanks for your service.

the main issue with powered armor for soliders are teh power source, you would have to fit the equivalent of a car engine on a guys back in preferably the space of lunch box. you would need a nuke reactor or something, alot like what has been suggested by iron man and halo media (crysis is a good example on how we would do it, though good luck getting the same effects) . we have versions that work in a not half bad way, but you cant get them to be self powered. there are a few solutions like micro tape battery... but thats still experimental. the only reason that a power suit would be used and mechs wont, is because humans arent shaped like a tank lol. tanks are space effiecent, while mechs arent. and the resultant exra weight, makes mechs too expensive, to bulky and have too many weak points. even so, if we made Nanosuits, spartan suits, or ironman suits, they would be so expensive they would be reserved for elite soliders only, the masses wouldnt be able to use it, its already being done with dragonskin armor, which is almost miraculous. due to politics and expenses, only VIPs, special forces, and other high end forces use it. big story there, too much to write about, look it up

reality sucks dont it? back in the day peasants got sent to war with a pitchfork while the nobles (those that did go) had full body armor and horses. eventually though, all means of protection was rendered null with crossbows, infact it was pissing them off so much that several kings asked the pope to outlaw it, said it was rediculous that a peasent could kill a knight with out much effort.

Who says it's powered by steam? It could be powered by any sort of fantasy/high-tech mechanism. Just because something's steampunk doesn't mean it MUST be powered by steam.
