Description I this map, I determined the parallels and meridians of the famous map of the Lord of the Rings map entitled 'The West of Middle-earth at the End of the Third Age’. So each location on Middle-Earth have geographical coordinates and can be situated on the real world. For example Hobbiton is located at 51.6°N / 5°E, near Tilbour (a little town in south Holland).

The map scale (2cm = 100 miles [1]) is only reliable on the "central meridian" (the vertical red line) and on all the paralles (horizontal lines). The position of red line is somewhat arbitrary, but it is chosen at the center of the action field of the Lord of the Rings book.

On a cartographical point of view, the projection used is "sinusoidal" [2] (the reference meridian is 10°E) or Bonne (with a parallel reference at equator, and always the central meridian is 10°E ). The countries overlay is generated by the software G.Projector — Map Projection Explorer [3].

This projection was already developed by Lalaith and Alberto Monteiro in 1997 [4], with a similar result.
