Description
Blake speed model. The model was fast...the posing rendering and painting...not so much :I
I had a ton of fun making this. I haven't done anything like this for several months, and it was good to get back into the swing of modeling. I feel like I have grown significantly since my original Ruby Speed model! It took me so long to get to Blake because I just wasn't a fan of her when her original trailer came out. By the end of season one though, she has really grown on me! The end of Season one really put me in the mood to do some more RWBY art. I REALLY wanted to do either Nora or Sun, but I figured that I should finish the main 4 before moving on to the side characters.
Forgive the jubilee of wrong/missing details. -_-()
More RWBY Speed models!
Total Modeling time: About 5 hours
Made in Maya 2013 and Photoshop CS6 using a Wacom Intuos 4 tablet

Ooh, very nice! I love the background and the weapon o_o So is that a legit 3D model of Blake? o-o

I don't know if I could call it a LEGIT model...Lol. It IS a full 3d model, and it is built to smooth and to deform, but it has a TON of messy geometry, and a lot of parts are faked on by painting (Face, hair, bust lines, suspender staps to name a few).
I'll admit i did cheat a little too, I used the hands and legs from a blank female model that I made and keep on hand for speed models. Other than that though, I made everything else from scratch (Swords included) in the 5 hours
A boring A-Pose of the model is here aiynsedai.deviantart.com/art/B…

Ahaha! I see, I see! Very well done painting xD (Thought it was all modeled) So was making the model hard? With Maya? o-o Sorry, I've just really been getting into animation stuff lately xD

Haha no worries. No, she wasn't particularly hard to make. I'm personally really good at quick dirty modeling, especially when I don't have to worry about any polygon limits. I'm also not very big into using image planes for references or anything, I just eyeball everything I do, proportion wise, which allows me to be more fluid in my modeling, rather than obsessing over "Tracing" things perfectly.
For the most part, she is made of really simple shapes.
~Her bow is just a cube with a bunch of horizontal divisions with some verts and edges tweaked.
~Scarf is a cylinder with the same treatment (Soft Mod tool is your friend when you are making quick organic pieces like cloth!)
~Shoulder straps are a rectangular plane extruded along a curve that I drew on her torso in interactive mode
~Sleeve/Metal cuff/Arm bands-All Pipes, just scaled and used Soft mod to make them fit her arm shape properly (Half of them Clip through the back and sides from any other view, but you'll never see that!)
Etc Etc. Modeling really isn't too hard if you just learn to break things down into their basic forms! (Also, CHEAT! Learn where and how you can cheat to save time and effort, depending on what your project is! Her face for example. God bless anybody who takes the time to model an anime face. I knew that it would look better, and be WAY faster to just get the general shape, and then paint the rest! The lace on her bust is a photoshop brush that I tweaked, and spend all of 12 seconds drawing. )
Her blades are super geometric, and were super simple as far as hard surface modeling goes, because they don't have very many different planes to work with, so don't require proper poly flow to have the right surfacing!
If you want to get really good at modeling fast, I really suggest speed modeling. Get simple objects and give yourself a time limit and STICK TO IT! Give yourself 45 minutes to model a tv remote, things like that. Then work your way up to more intricate things, like entire characters! Some people sketch with pen and paper, or photoshop, I like to sketch with Maya ^_^
