First off, thank you oh-so-much. Really.
As for the skin, I first start off with a base color. Then, at a low opacity, I paint in large sections of similar color, including highlights and shadows. I continue to do this, each time paying more attention to detail.
Light sources are also really important.
And... the colors. I put a few to the side that flow from one to the other, and use gradients of them as I paint.
