Description
ok so i hated tom hardy as bane. i felt his physical conditioning was far too high in percent body fat for someone in prison so long. i feel the design they gave him SUCKED and couldn't be further from the comic or realistic. i just didn't like it. i always like tom's acting of course, but i hate what tdk and tdkr did to my villains in both design and casting.so having said that, Bane grew up in prison, until he became cock of the walk, and was so dangerous the prison was forced to use him as the experiment for venom to control him, they blew it and he took over and became more of a threat than ever. so, grew up in prison until he became the man u dont fuck with....but in a prison world, and i felt that was the source of the design.
in jail u get tatted up, most common among latin criminals as they get more tattoos than any other race, including the nazis. (this is true i looked this statistic up believe it or not) so bane had to get tatted. the trick was if it would be in Spanish, Portuguese, French or English (bane spoke many languages as he read every book in the prison till he knew it by memory) and i settled on spanish.
because he was so learned, but came from poverty i feel like he would flaunt his knowledge in famous quotes and such...rub it in villain style, but his body should reflect his roots, a hard man from a hard world. the tats reflect a lot of what i see in south american MMA fighters.
One of bane's teachers was a Jesuit preist, so one tat reads GOD GIVES STRENGTH in spanish. the other is his name on his stomach (as bane is not his real name obvs) and the name of his beloved teddy on his heart.
now the mask. Bane was created as a response to the growing steroid scandal in WWF and sports, sort of a combo of a super evil DOC SAVAGE and a WWE Superstar...lucha from hell.
so how does the mask fit logically? well i figure in Prison, maybe they had one TV on his little island, and they got News and Sports. Soccer for sure, but prolly Lucha Libre as well from mexico. since bane grew up in the slam, as a boy he prolly had a favorite, one he wanted to be....so when he became cock of the walk, he was heavyweight champ of the world, stronger and bigger than he ever could be on his own. so his super self needed a super persona...and what better than a a lucha mask? it makes sense to me.
his gear is basic. revolutionary camo pants and boots. no shirt as its south america and its hot. maybe that vest from RISES that was cool. but basic. no tights.
his VENOM tank which is MANDATORY for bane as the cowl is for batman...its much like the new52 version. big tank, main tube to his head, secondary tube to his left arm (weak arm) and control knob on the back of his left hand.
to be cool the tank is bolted to his body and is made of irony kinda rusted metal and leather straps. thought that would seem more the level of tech down there.
anyway it just bugged me and i wanted to do something bane esk that had the super roids, so i did a quick plate and colored the main front normal size view.
the 2 secondary and tertiary sketches are roided out on VENOM.
enjoy, but please, no debates on Tom Hardy as Bane, if u liked him great, if u like heath as joker great...i didn't let me have my opinion its taste after all and u can't really argue taste...so says the supreme court in usa vs. larry flint ruling anyway.

He really looks like a combination between a wrestler and a South American gangster.

well the theory was bane was in prison with gangsters and freedom fighters in a brazillian prison (since the name of the prison is portuguese i assume brazil) and all they had on tv was lucha libre hence the mask. i think it makes sense.

Nice
Glad i'm not the only one who didn't like TDKR Bane. He's supposed to be a super-buff, venom-enhanced assassin of latin-american descent, and in TDKR, they just made him some mild-build British-sounding lunatic in a weird looking gas mask and army outfit
Plus I couldn't understand half of what he said with his voice being muffled by that mask, and the sounds of him breathing in the mask annoyed me as well
Give me super-buff, latino-accented luchador Bane anyday!

i really wanted him to be roided out.Β tom hardy is so short i dont get them trying to make him look big, most of the shots were his stunt double, the guy who doubled bale teh first 2 flicks.Β it was justΒ a fail of execution since they wrote teh character so well.Β Β i chalk it up to just a bad decision by the director.Β i was fairly happy with young justice and justice league doom versions being that they had south american accents and venom.

that bane was weird, the lucha mask was very odd (nacho libre style) and the actor was doing russian/ eastern european not spanish.Β very bizzare choice by bruce timms there.

Glad you actually put your concept thoughts down on your submission for all to read. Honestly man I agree with you on everything, because it all makes sense. I personally think that a huge component to the character of Bane besides tattoos would have been... SCARS. Like big nasty ones because the guy was a straight brawler, who grew up in prison. Imagine all the times the guy got shanked... because think about it he wasn't trained in a dojo but had to fight for his life in a real prison. I see him being even bigger than the top right sketch but more like the first one you have. Any guy whose been through a living h*ll like Bane would proudly show his battle scars just like his ink. Again great concept and nice execution!

while my opinion of the the batman villians in the nolan-verse is the opposite of yours, I really like what you did with bane here, as well as the backstory your provided.
