Description
A sub race of the Naga for Of Demons and Gods. The Devastator/AKA the ResurrectedStory:
Amongst all Immortal races, the Nagas were well known for their brutal training regiment which produce some of the finest, ruthless, most effective fighting force ever known by every race. However, the infamy of their training regiment does not only come from the magnificent Berserkers rolling out of their barracks, but also the number of casualties caused during the training process. While generally 50% of the trainee did die out, in actuality, around 30% of the surviving ones ended up handicapped. Missing both eyes, a part of a body, a greater of their organs, etc. Being Immortals, Nagas don't die easily but they still can scar. And these scars will remain in their body for the rest of their eternity. Most Naga would rather kill themselves rather than bearing the scar and the shame of unable to perform their duty as warriors. Add this with the casualties of those who survive the war albeit losing an arm or two, it's not exaggerating to say that, in wartime, the only Nagas stayed behind in their homes are the women and those who are handicapped.
Some of the Handicapped Nagas search for an alternate way for those who are handicapped to continue to serve. And they found it, in machinery. They learned, through natural occurrences of a volcano, to utilize the heat of flames to forge steel and use it as power source.
However, Nagas are still Nagas, and they realized they have to find a way to breathe for a long time outside water. So the first thing they need to do is to create lungs for them to breathe. To develop these iron lungs, the Nagas perform their research on various land animals. They even perform surgery on demon corpses to do that. The progress was slow since they have to do it in secret and at the time they ARE limited by their inability to stay outside water for long. But since the Nagas had an eternity to live, these problems simply goes out of window. When the first Iron Lung prototype was completed, comes the time for the implantation.
The initial process was torturous and painful, even for the battle hardened Nagas. They literally have to cut themselves open, and removed their gills. At the time, they have little knowledge on anesthetics or proper relevant surgery techniques. So procedure was done rather brutally and excruciating. When the first test subject was successfully implanted and managed to live off the water continuously, it is a sign for them to move their experiment to the next level.
To create these machinaries, the Nagas cannot use the resources in the sea as they are too fragile to be used as the raw material for the implants. They need ores. And they can only find abundant amount of it on dry ground. And so they establish the first Machina Production Forgery on the ground in a volcano, a direct contrast with the other Nagas living in the deepest abyss of the Ocean. In this facility, the machina technology went leaps and bounds albeit it was done in secret. The other Nagas finally caught the rumors of a mechanized army is being assembled somewhere. But they dust it off as a mere lies made by the demons.
Finally, during an sudden demonic ambush on a squad of trapped Berserkers, the full mechanical might of the Devastator was brought to light.
These Nagas were changed inside out. Their lost limbs were replaced (as necessary) with mechanical limbs made of prosthetic muscle structures not dissimilar with those found on snakes. However, having lost most of their ability to channel Chakra (hence unable them to use the Barriers the Nagas were well known for), they compensate that by increasing their physical defense. Armor plates were grafted into their skin. Their chest cavities and digestion organs were removed, replaced by an on board heat fusion reactor.
Their eyeballs were replaced with active targeting system for the Fafnir Drone Launcher mounted on both of their shoulders. A separate targeting system, effectively a second set of eyes were installed on their back, mounting a pair of customizable limb, with standard armament includes a Surtr Heat plasma bayonet cannon, powered directly by the heat fusion reactor that can pierce through any armor like hot knife through butter. This separate targeting system are hiveminded and semi autonomous, slaved directly into the Naga's brain (or what's left of it, depending on the damage level). This enable the Devastator to engage multiple enemy coming from any direction, from land or air.
As in the Naga's tradition of dishing out punishment as much as it can take, the Devastator's armor plating are specially made and double layered, enabling them to shook off the heaviest artillery shell without disturbing their aim. Several dozen hover engines were lined on the plating of their underbelly. Their new head carapace were lined with unique feature to cause a high frequency pitch that can pierce through obstacles. This enables them to 'swim' through ground as if they were on ocean. Their iron lung also enables them to stay subterranean for indeterminate amount of time before they burst out and attack. There's also been an account where a Devastator, already half broken and beyond saving, blindly charged towards an enemy, pierce through them with its specialized carapace before overloading his reactor and explodes in a Blaze of Glory, taking all his opponents with him.
Despite the apparent effectiveness of the Devastators and the prospect it may bring to the handicapped warriors of the Nagas, the race sees their existence as deplorable at best as they considered as everything that the Naga's policy of purity of form stand up against. Even worse, the metal processing procedure were considered hazardous to aquatic life. Under the pressure of war, the Nagas can tolerate their existence but only to a certain extent. However, during peace time, it is inevitable that outbreaks of skirmishes inbetween the Nagas would happen. The practice of machination was forbidden. Despite this however, the Nagas who've lost their limbs would often come to be baptized by fire to become one of them, as the pure Nagas refused to change their ruthless training regime.
In the end, these machinated Naga were banished and excommunicated. Despite that fact, the Machina Nagas are still willing to serve under their Lord Seiryuu and they accepted their exile as their just punishment of having defiled the domain of their lord. Hence these machine warriors would remain on dry land for the rest of their lives, leaving behind the ocean that has been their home for almost all of their lives. Hence they became known as the Scarred Exiles.
